Well crap, I've used a blichman beer gun for years, though I rarely bottle, only for comps or to give some away or share with other.. I may have to look into the tapcooler if it is superior.
It's night and day between the beer gun and Tapcooler, with the latter in a totally different league especially in regard to hazy beers. I had the Tapcooler and loved it but the telescopic arm seized up on me (my own fault). Couldn't justify the price of a new one compared to the Kagland version (about 1/3 of the price over here. The Tapcooler is slightly but not 3x as good and you also get all the accessories with the Kegland version. There is a bit of a learning curve with them to really get the hang of it but once the process clicks it's very easy.

I just ordered a Nukatap for my keezer lol
I tend to get in trouble when I just go buy stuff for myself this time of year, though I usually do anyhow haha... plus im about to break the piggy bank open when I stop at treehouse this weekend. So I'll hold off for now. You'll love that tap though, forward sealing taps have been a game changer for me.

My setup is in the basement. As long as I scoop up the package before the Mrs gets home, I'm golden lol.

I have the Kegland version with the tap adaptor - haven't used it yet but it fits into the spout of my tap which is just a normal flow control tap.
Is forward sealing needed for the Kegland version and how do I know if it is forward sealing?
Hopefully it doesn't spray all over place when I open the tap.
I might also make a "secret" order of a Nukatap if needed :ghostly:

dumping the first dry hop of my fidens inspires brew, with a mix of 2023/2024 YVH Citra. It smelled amazing, more so than normal. Second dry hop will be 2023 Nelson and 2024 galaxy. I am hoping the second dry hop doesn’t ruin the batch

Also using wyeast 1272 at a 0.5 pitch rate. 1272 is amazing when I tasted pre-dry hop. Creamier and ester profile is much more in line with what I like. It actually reminded me of old school Haze from tree house crossed with fidens

Update, 2024 YVH galaxy smelled really great in the bag, super fruity. 2023 YVH Nelson on the other hand went in the trash, smelled like grass, no redeeming qualities. Swapped it out with 2 oz of 2023 YVH Citra lupomax

I haven't had any issues with the BeerGun personally. I've had the same experience of opening a bottle of a hazy 6 months later and it still looking pretty bright in color. Flavor wasn't the best, but it looked great lol. It works well for cans, too. Just be sure to fill all the way and cap on foam.

Pardon the humble brag but a homebrew recipe that I first brewed in the fall of 2019 just won Gold at GABF for session IPA and I believe it’s the first time they’ve awarded a medal in that category to a “hazy” beer. That first homebrew batch was probably first time anyone in the world had combined Nectaron and Krush. I was buying HORT4337, which would become Nectaron, from BeerCo in AUS and I think that was the first harvest 586 was made commercially available at all. 586 sucked for two years after that and even the Nectaron we get now wasn’t as good as those early bags of 4337 but we now have great lots of both those hops and this was the best version of that beer that we’ve made and the judges seemed to agree.

It’s very similar to the Dopo recipe I posted this summer except a little lighter grain bill.

Simcoe at 60
Nectaron at 10
Krush and Citra Incognito in WP

DH is equal parts Krush and Nectaron with a 15% addition of Citra at 2.5#/bbl total.

At least for 22 and 23 Krush was almost all blended. There are basically only two lots of it. So what you’re buying as a homebrewer is basically what everyone else gets. Nectaron can be pretty OG out of the bag (and the Cryo is even worse) if you aren’t big and selecting it but the OG never seems to come through in the final beer so if your bag smells a little garlicky don’t worry.

And yes Galaxy is making a comeback. Wouldn’t say it’s back to 2016 Galaxy but it’s much much better than it’s been that’s for sure. I think you will continue to see an overall quality increase in Aussie hops over the next few years. I might be most excited for Eclipse actually. The orange character of that hop is bonkers however the black licorice that came along with it was not so sweet. If better growing practices can tamp down the licorice it could be a really awesome hop. Especially when paired with something like Tangier from Segal Hop Ranch which you’re gonna start to hear a lot about.

I saw that in your insta page. That’s amazing, congrats on the hardware! I actually brewed a 5.2 abv beer using the tips from your recipe that came out really nice. I used Nottingham on mine because I’m also trying to get more neutral yeast character in these beers lately. It works well but not perfect. I used to use a lot of wlp023 but my lhbs no longer carries it. May have to give wlp007 a go again or try your kolsch yeast suggestion.

This was one of my most recent NE DIPAs, came in second place at that little invite only pro-am comp that BreakThrough Brewing did, and also got a gold at DRAFT brewfest.

Was kind of going "brujos style" on the grain bill here - efficiency wasn't great but the beer was. Body was super soft with the high FG and the hefty amount of protein grains. The Nelson/Peacharine combo is a banger - peacharine almost bridges the gap between the classic NZ profile and Citra. Little bit of diesel but for the most part big tropical fruit character. Pic was taken about 1.5ish months post canning.

"Without Warning"
9% ABV, 1.091 OG 1.024 FG. 33 calculated IBUS. 170:85 Cl:SO4.
6.5gal into the fermenter

Mashed at 152, targeted 5.2 ph
10lbs Pilsner malt (36.4%)
10lbs White Wheat (36.4%)
6lbs Flaked Oats (21.8%)
1.5lbs Brewers Crystals (5.5%)

WP: 8oz Citra 2021 T45 pellets. 4oz added at 180 for 20 mins, 4 more added at 160 for 30 more mins. Dropped pH to 5.0 at knockout

Fermented with 2 packs of Verdant, started at 68 for 4 days then switched to my pressure transfer lid and free rose to 73.

Dry hop: 3oz/gal with equal parts Freestyle Nelson and Peacharine - off of the yeast for 36 hours agitating a few times manually (shaking the fermenter) COLD (low 40's).

Congratulations on the award, great achievement. I've just got 16oz of 23 Krush from YVH from their close out sale. Haven't a clue really what to pair it with so since you're familiar with it what would you recommend?

I didn't order any 24 Nectraron this time, went with 16oz ofSuperdelic, also have the usual suspects Citra, Mosaic, Simcoe and also got 16oz of HBC 1019 with no idea what to pair it with either. Will order more when the 24 Nelson comes in stock, just hope it's improved over the 23 batch. ANy good combos from the above hops?

Didn't know that at the time but had a quick look there and the only place that has stock and ships to here is in Sweden and it's working out more than the Kegland tap, around €55/$55. I'll keep an eye out for a replacement and maybe order one next time I'm stateside.

Brujos just did one with Riwaka, Krush, Citra & Mosaic that was really phenomenal. I'd say just Krush & Citra would be great as well.

We’ve paired it with Nectaron, Citra, Strata, Centennial, 1019, Galaxy, Mosaic.

We’ve done single hop beers with it.

Honestly all are great. It’s a very potent hop that definitely stands out. Has a unique character to it that seems like it has a neomexicanus attribute but supposedly it doesn’t have neomexicanus parentage.

Fidens and green cheek did a collab called Evan’s axe. It was a citra , krush tipa and it quite honestly was very juice forward. I think you need to pair krush with something dank to balance the sweetness of krush. It reminds me of good mosaic without the darkness.

Cheers! It’s was solid. Didn’t get a lot of hop variety from it though, a bit one dimensional but really good never the less

Thanks, going by this and other reports I can't really go wrong with Citra and Krush. Also thinking maybe a small bit of Mosaic or strata to complement the berry character and bring a bit of dank. What percentage of the dry hop would you go with Krush? If its potent would Citra 50%/ Krush 30%/ Mosaic or Strata 20% work?
