New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Finally got around to making mine I was asking for advice awhile back. Kept it simple with
85% Golden Promise
10% Flaked Oats
5% Carapils
Basic hazy hop schedule with 2:1:1 Cascade/Citra/Simcoe
Kegged today with an ounce of home grown Cascade in the Keg.
I'll post a photo when it's carbed but the hydro sample was amazing.

Has anyone ever pitched wort onto a previous dry hop? I have a very clean dry hop from a previous beer that was in contact for 48 hours (cali ipa) and I'm considering pitching my hazy wort straight onto it like a day 1 dry hop. I'm tempted to experiment and take one for the team.

I'll be able to drop out the yeast and hops after fermentation. My thoughts are it will add a lot of depth to the beer and then I can finish it off with 1 hop (nectaron) and still have a lot of complexity... Anyone ever tried this?

Previous dry hop was idaho 7, citra, nectaron & galaxy...

An update... This brew was pretty painful, I had way more attenuation than planned for and ended up with an eggy note that I've never experienced with a beer fermentation (seen it in cider plenty). Loads of variables - perhaps there was still enough residual us-05 from the previous brew to bump up the attenuation, perhaps the extra hop load contributed. Either way this beer was more high maintenance than usual.... However, the aroma and depth of hop flavour is more than I've experienced before. I ended up crashing this beer to the point it was almost like a lager before I dry hopped. Regardless, the aroma and flavour was way more defined. More like a commercial IPA than I have personally brewed before. My setup makes it more difficult to continually drop yeast or hops but if I still had a stainless conical I would definitely give this method another try. The beer I debated tipping down the sink at one point turned out really solid so not much to lose. Hopefully someone else gives it a crack so we have a data sample greater than 1!

DH 2:1:1 citra:nectaron:nelson @ 2oz per gallon... a little over that but close.

I used it a few months ago with Citra and Nectaron. Rate's were 5oz Superdelic, 6oz Citra, 2oz Nectaron. Beer was excellent. Will brew this combo again but would maybe dial back the Superdelic a bit as it's pretty potent. I used some during fermentation too as it brings out more of a berry character compared to late dry hopping which produces a more tropical fruit profile.

I've just ordered some 24 crop from Yakima Valley so will hopefully have that in the next week or so.

To get a more accurate gravity reading, you should take it pre carbed or after you degass it.

That should work alright, will definitely be more Superdelic/Nectaron dominant but at least you'll see what Superdelic brings. Looking forward to see what you think of the crop. Probably won't get a chance to brew with it till before Christmas myself.

Brewed it today so we'll see, the superdelic has a unique aroma when I opened the bag, I'm excited to see how it turns out, brew day started out rough, I was a but hungover and wasn't quite with it. I did hit my numbers and whatnot so not to worried. Had a beer while whirlpool was finishing up.

Oh my bad I saw the brick and something about the lighting made me think that was outside. I’ve seen some Aussies with outdoor set ups tha make me jealous. But I can’t complain being in a garage.

Before I bought the house the basement was finished, but then it took on water so it was gutted and fixed before I signed, the brick area was a woodstove hearth, I put a woodstove in the living room instead and now the hearth houses my 2 spike cf15s and the glycol chiller. The kettles are 30gal. I still need to finish the ceiling, it was a drop ceiling that also got torn out and it looks like hell so I try to leave it out of any pics haha.

I'm planning a new batch, this time imperial strength. I was thinking Galaxy, Citra and Sabro but I wasn't sure on the ratios and amounts. Would you increase hopping for stronger brews or keep it the same? I usually do 8 g/l in WP and 14-16 g/l dry. Ratios I was thinking 2:1:1 Galaxy:Citra:Sabro, but also considering 1:1:1.

Galaxy has not been good at all in previous years so I would keep that low. Citra is great IMHO and should be the heaviest you use. Sabro is ridiculously potent. Probably don’t need more that 15-20% of your total hop bill*for it to be identified

The Galaxy I have is pretty decent. Not like 2019, but not very bad either but thanks for the heads up! The quality of the Citra and Sabro is much better and I like Sabro a lot personally. I just never used them together. Maybe I'll go 3:2:1 or 2:2:1 C/S/G then.

So what's the consensus about 2024 Galaxy? Is it worth buying? I buy pretty much all my hops from YVH. Have any of you had good luck with 2024 Galaxy from them?

Ok, so I copped out on the galaxy for this batch, I got nervous using it on a 15 gallon batch. I clearly still have them and I think I'm gonna do a little experiment 5 gallon batch where I'll use the new galaxy hops in the dryhop for that batch. If I plan things properly I'll be brewing that in about 3 weeks. I plan to open them to do a smell test ahead of that so we'll see if they atleast pass that test.

Found a bottle of my homebrew in the back of my beer fridge that I bottled this past may (was hiding behind some Sam summers lol)

Held up amazingly. Def lighter in aroma than when it was fresh (probably kegged end of April/early may) but kinda stunned with how good it is with this age on it and being transferred from the tap to a bottle. Goes to show proper anti o2 practices and the Tap cooler filler work well

I got the the Kegland version on special offer from AliExpress about a year ago but it's just been gathering dust in my brew cupboard.

No absorbic. I’m unbelievably cautious for anti o2 and follow strict process. Idk if you’ve seen me post in the past but I’ve modified my equipment to be as minimal o2 pick up as possible on the coldside that the only time my beer hits o2 is in the pint glass. Then the tap cooler is an amazing counter presssure filler that allows you to fill from your taps

Couldn't agree more. I've really nailed down my o2 processes. Bottled some hazies using a tap cooler and they were still fresh and tasty 3 months later

To be honest, I use the NukaTap version of the counter filler by Kegland but it is basically the same thing as the Tap Cooler

Well crap, I've used a blichman beer gun for years, though I rarely bottle, only for comps or to give some away or share with other.. I may have to look into the tapcooler if it is superior.

It might be the same quality wise, but the tap cooler or likeness are just easy to use, clean, and sanitize. It’s also small and easy to store without taking up much space. The only mandatory need is forward sealing taps

I've been using the Tapcooler straight from the keg, as I don't have taps, and I still don't have major confidence in my bottling ability. @camonick sent me a 6 month old bottle of his neipa bottled with the Tapcooler, and it held up unbelievably well. Fully carbed and no oxidation.

I don't find it particularly easy to use with the keg adapter. Might have to invest in a tap...

thats what I did. mounted a nukatap forward sealing tap to my beer fridge door with a duotight adapter on the back end. so I can plug up any of the kegs to it and then mount the counterpressure filler to the front
