Will be visiting my daughter in a few months. She lives near Greensboro N.C. Any good Craft Beer pubs w/good food in the area?

I don't know anything about Greensboro, but have two words for you: Duck Rabbit.

I was just looking at this today and found ncbeer.org, which seems to be fairly comprehensive and is listed by city. Also Duck Rabbit is awesome, but not super close to Greensboro.

I don't think Duck Rabbit does tours, but they aren't found too widely outside of the mid-atlantic. Get it when you can, their Rabid Duck RIS is AWESOME!

Try a Red Oak: humming bird if you can. Lone Rider: shotgun betty is a good wheat in draft too.

Check out Natty Green's in Greensboro. If you have time, I highly recommend Foothills in Winston-Salem. Both have upscale bar fare prices are in the $10 to $20 range.

Beermapping.com is a great source. Here is the link to all of the southeast, http://beermapping.com/maps/maps.php?m=southeastern#lat=29.496987596535767&lng=-74.53125&z=12

Full Steam is an awesome place if you happen to be going near Durham as they do some off the wall brews(sweet potatoes, basil, sours and Rainier cherries to name a few).

Thanks for all the ideas. I have found 3 that look good and will ask the daughter to check them out before I arrive. I'm pretty sure her boyfriend is into beer. Not sure about craft beers. Maybe I can convert him.

Which 3 are you looking at?

I recommend picking up a couple of six packs of Lonerider (peacemaker is an excellent PA), Big Boss, and Foothills (if available). I personally don't find Red Oak to be that great, although I do love driving by their brewery on the highway. The brewing scene in North Carolina has really blown up in the last few years.

Big boss in Raleigh does tours for free every second saturday of the month. Fullsteam is awesome as well as triangle brewing co., bullcity brewery and burger, natty Greene in Raleigh I think they have another site in Greensboro as well. Im drinking a lone rider right now. Good beer and the labels are stickers that peek off clean and easy. For you other north carolinians check out beltline brew tours they have a van and do brewery tours. Awesome time.

Oh yea. Sams Quik shop in Durham is hands down the best craft beer store I've ever seen. You can drink a beer on tap there or any beer they sell while you shop. Attached are a few pics. I've taken inside there.

If you're in Raleigh, please check out Tasty Beverage Company. They are located near the train station (near The Pit). I stopped in there for the first time on Saturday and I was very impressed. They had a much better selection than Total Wine. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

Sam's is the best! I was just there last Thursday. I love that they now have beer on tap.

A cool story about duck rabbit that most don't know is that the guy that owns that brewery is a psychology major and choose his name and label after the famous duck/rabbit picture that looks like a duck or rabbit picture depending on how you look at it. I guess whether you see a duck or rabbit says something about your personality.

I really want to like Fullsteam. Cool owners, good ethos, but I can't get into their beers. Every one I've tried has just been ok, and I think I've tried six now.

I've meet one other person that wasn't a fan of fullsteam as well but they still visit the brewery because they have other local brews available at their bar.

Nattys in greensboro is starting to do some really good brewpub only stuff. Their bottled beer is pretty good, but some of the stuff at the brewpub is great...

My wife checked out Natty Greene's while at a conference in G'boro and loved it. She's got great taste in beer and breweries. While I've never been to Greene's I would strongly recommend driving to Winston Salem (prob less than 30 minutes) to check out Foothills - some of the best beer in the state IMO. There are many, many more options if you venture toward Raleigh/Durham, or the coast, or the mountains, or just about anywhere in the state. Enjoy!!

Foothills Seeing Double!

Foothills is great. Anyone living in NC needs to attend one of the sexual chocolate releases. Get there early, bring a few special beers, and get ready to have a blast.

I'm not sure if the OP has already made his trip or not, but if you can make it a few hours west to Asheville, NC, there are 10 breweries there. Rumor has it that Sierra Nevada and New Belgium are looking at the area for east coast breweries.

Old thread , but there's now more than 20 ....Apparently Asheville's won “Beer City, USA” for three years running, beating out national heavyweights like Portland and San Diego.

The Raleigh area isn't too far behind Asheville either
