Just upload them to your gallery (click on My Gallery and then upload). Once they're there, you can just right-click to copy the image and then paste it into whatever message you want.

Why does it say that it is not a valid image? I am trying to update my avatar.

Oh, I don't know then. Is is bigger than the maximum size? (150x150 for Lifetime Supporters, I think)

Maybe you could try to convert it to a different image format (.gif -> .jpg) and try. If that doesn't work, I'd PM a mod and see what they think.
