Hello Everyone,

My name is Ian and im from Denver. I got into this great hobby about 3-4 months ago after starting up a Mr. Beer kit that sat in my closet for a year or two after receiving it as a Christmas gift. At the time I was having problems with an old friend who was really into different types of beers. He was always having me try different types he liked and although I enjoyed many of them, I was never able to really develop a taste for 'good' beer til I finished my first kit brew. I figured brewing beer was a hobby we could both get into and bring us closer together again. It didn't work, but I was quickly hooked and bought a few carboys and started picking up extract kits that a local brewshop puts together. They are reasonably cheaper than the commercial ones they sell.

So far I have done a 5 gallon batch of pale ale and stout and im currently fermenting a Scotch Ale (just started a couple days ago). Each brew I do gives me a new appreciation of each type of beer. Before my own brews I would likely never buy any of these beers from a store. In fact I only bought the kits to 'try something different'. but i actually enjoy the taste quite a bit more than before, after spending a week or two slowly drinking down a batch of my own.

I look forward to getting into full grain as my skills progress and I'm a huge fan of belgian ales. Duvel is pretty much my all time favorite beer, and i cant wait to create a clone. I also enjoy lagers, and wouldn't turn down a never ending supply of something similar to st. pauli's girl. I drink a lot of grolsch for the swing top bottles as well, although I much prefer many other commercial beers.

My non-brewing life is pretty simple. I'm big into fishing, camping, hiking, biking (50-100miles a day) and do anything I can to stay outdoors when the weather is acceptable. Its been rough recently as its too cold to stay out and enjoy most those things. So i spend a lot more time online, waiting for spring to show its head so i can start climbing mountains in search of the great tasting morel mushroom and some very hungry fish.

Anyway, I still have a lot of learning to do and will probably be somewhat quiet for a while. But nice to meet you all and hope to be a valued contributor of my own recipes someday.

Happy Brewing!
