Hi guys.

Newish to home brewing as I've only done about half a dozen kit and kilos.
Here's my problem. I put a pear cider down at 3pm on Saturday and as of 6pm Monday there is still no sign of fermentation. Nothing from the air lock and no visible sign on top of cider.

How long do I wait and what do I do if still nothing after that wait?

Everything else started fermenting next morning.

Have you taken a hydrometer reading to confirm lack of fermentation?

No.

I forgot to take an og but should still have some idea by taking one now.

There is no sediment though so guessing nothing has happened.

Took a gravity reading and it's 1030.

Kit was made with 500g of dextrose. Not sure what og should have been.

What kind of kit is this? Some sort of pear concentrate?

Pear juice itself should be around 1.035. If you added 500g of sugar to a 5 gallon batch, that should have put your SG up around 1.050.

It's a mangrove jacks pear cider. ImageUploadedByHome Brew1404809758.577873.jpg

Just took a gravity reading and it was 1010 so something has happened. Little bit of sediment visible at the bottom of bucket. Cider must just be a different breed to beer.

When I took the reading it smelt a bit "farty". Tasted ok though. Is this normal? Think I've read somewhere that it's a fermentation smell.
