Just kinda curious if you like what your team is doing in free agency since there's a lot of movement going on. I really don't keep track of the NFL much until the season starts. But I'm personally not liking the No Action going on with the Packers again. Bird, the Pats are certainly busy though aren't they.

Well, personally I'm glad we didn't get into the bidding wars for some of these guys. Including Ahman Green. Texas is gambling huge with that deal. No way will he ever come close to fulfilling that contract. Ahman is a very old and mileaged 30 years old. Plus, secretly I'm glad the Packers didn't resign him because he only needed a couple hundred yards to break the franchise rushing record of one of the all-time best Packer RBs in history. Jimmy Taylor. After Bart and Brett, he is my one of my all time favorite Packers. Talk about tough. Damn.

I can't believe Dallas gave that turd Leonard Davis that huge contract. There is a reason the AZ QBs sucked for the past few years.

I love what the Pats have done - it almost makes up for trading Deion Branch.

Thomas was the premier player available at such a key position, linebacker, and from all accounts he'll be a perfect fit in the D. A younger Willie McGinnist.

I love Wes Welker, he's a baller, and they needed someone who could return kicks so that they wouldn't have to put Laurence Maroney back there again (keep him fresh without having Dillion around).

Have to see if Kyle Brady has anything left in the tank, but Daniel Graham got a *lot* of guaranteed money with Denver... helluva blocker, pretty decent receiver, but 5/$30 is a lot at the TE spot when you've got to pay Ben Watson as well.

Lost Tully Banta-Cain, who had his moments and seemed to be an improving player - but this isn't a huge loss.

Overall, then, I'm pretty happy with the team's direction. Another big receiver would be nice (I'd take a chance on Randy Moss, personally), and we can always use more depth in the secondary (need to resign Asante Samuel to a long term deal).

I didn't mind Green heading out either. I also agree on not breaking the bank, but I do want to see something happen. We were nicely below cap last year and all of the woes aren't getting fixed from the draft.

Bird, you guys were one of the lowest under cap last year. It definitely "sounds" like they're spending more this year although I don't know that for fact after the exits as well though.

It was frustrating as a fan last year because they COULD have spent more to improve the '06 team, but they had the flexibility to go out this offseason and make some real big moves. I was not expecting them to get Thomas, just like I was not expecting them to sign Rosie Colvin a few years back - but they got those guys, extremely talented players in the prime of their careers, to sign what really look be very fair contracts.

Not sure how much more room we have, as noted, there are still a couple gaps (receiver, DB, maybe another RB) where they could use some help.

Hey bird, the Pat's didn't have as much cap room last season as everybody thought. After they got done getting the offensive line signed to long term contracts the cap room dwindled very quickly. I think the Pat's are in great shape for '07. I was sad to see Graham go, but the Pat's would never have paid him what he got from Denver.

Thomas is a "beast" in the words of Rodney Harrison. He will be a great fit. I can't wait until next season when the Colts attempt to send Dallas Clark across the middle and gets his head taken off by Thomas! Should be great fun!

Football cuts into my brewing time, time I can spend modifying my rig, or simply enjoying my products.

Actually, that is a lie. I rarely get to watch a game because of my stupid work schedule. My ability to follow a season's worth of ball is so chopped up it simply has become too frustrating to deal with.

So thanks alot for rubbing it in my face.

The Jets picked up apretty good RB in Thomas from the Bears for what was basically a swap of 2nd round picks. Since that was the one glaring hole we had last year I'm pretty happy:D Now to see if we can have as good a draft as we did last year and we might cause the boys in New England a few sleepless nights next season.:ban:

Hey 2nd, there were some rumors about Clock Killin' Corey Dillon going to the Jets; have you heard anything more on that front? He's ALMOST done, but he's got another year or two left if he can platoon with someone.

That was highway robery. I thought the Bears got both 2nd round pics and still thought it was a bad deal for them. I think Jones was worth more.

He's not a great back, but he gets the job done.

the going rate for a veteran RB is a 3rd round pick. the Bears now have 2 picks, 6 picks apart so they'll get a late 1st rounder and likely a 1st rounder who slides to the 2nd round. I wasn't happy about the trade to start with but it makes a bit more sense now.

Nah we're happy now. use Washington as a change of pace guy with Thomas or out of the backfield on flairs and screens and if pennington stays health(big if) and recovers some more arm strength we have a pretty decent offense. Work to be done on the D to get more 3-4 guys and while maybe not this year but next we can make some noise.

I'm a little worried about my Steelers this year. Porter gone, granted he was on the decline but still a lockeroom guy. FA for the Steelers is usually one sided with people leaving and nothing has changed this year.

Hopefully our QB will just lock himself in a panic room this offseason and stay away from anything that may knock him senseless again!

I see the Browns are in talks with Lewis, he could be a decent addition to the RB core. Hell Droughns has not really paned out. Now if they could only get an offensive line that was healthy we might be able to win a few more games! :mug:

Latest from my Packers forum:

MOSS DEAL HINGING ON CONDITIONAL PICK
There's a hitch that has emerged in the ongoing negotiations between the Packers and the Raiders regarding the terms of a potential trade of receiver Randy Moss to Green Bay.
We're told that the Raiders will only take quarterback Aaron Rodgers if there's also a conditional draft pick based on Rodgers' performance in 2007.
In short, if Rodgers doesn't perform, the Packers have to give up more in 2008.
The Packers' concern is that, because the Raiders have been so bad of late on offense, it's a given that Rodgers won't play well in 2007. Moreover, the Packers are concerned that the Raiders will bench Rodgers at some point during the season in order to ensure that a higher pick will come their way from Green Bay in 2008.
To resolve this potential impasse, we're told that the Packers are considering offering a 2009 conditional pick based on Rodgers' play in 2007 and 2008.
As we see it, the conditional pick should also be tied to the performance of Moss. The more he does in 2007, the more the Raiders get in 2008.
Really, the trade is about Moss, not Rodgers. And if Moss plays at Lambeau Field like he has performed there while a member of the Vikings, the Packers should be happy to eventually give up a first-day pick in 2008.

The Pack would seem to be in a position of strength with the Patriots seeming dropping their pursuit of Moss (after signing Stalworth, the Cinci guy, and trading for Welker).

Aren't conditional picks generally structured as "if this guy we are trading you does well, you own us more," rather that "if this guy we're receiving sucks, you owe us more." Hard to believe that the league would allow that kind of language, where the Raiders have a direct incentive for their player to perform poorly.

Dude, what would you say pro/con %'s are among the Pack fans for Moss?

I'd say the naysayers would prolly take the crown, but honestly, they are idiots, IMHO.

I want to win. Randy Moss + Donald Driver + Greg Jennings + Koren Robinson = TROUBLE for defenses.

Sure, I hate Randy Moss for what he did to the Packers all those years, not only the TDs but the mooning incident too. But he's not TO. Randy Moss wants to win football games. Sure he needs to catch the ball to be happy, but any player that doesn't want the ball, I don't want him on my team.

I can let history be in the past and accept RM as a Packer. Tired of losing. this instantly puts GB in contention in the weak NFC.

This combined with a first day RB pick in the draft, hopefully Marshawn Lynch or Michael Bush. It's on baby.

I've made this same point to anti-Moss friends here.....

But he's not TO.
...and this is the key. Moss is a smart *******. He knows exactly what he is doing when he does something controversial. TO is just a plain old *******. He does stupid and controversial things because he can't help it - not because he is an antagonist who is trying to get something in return. Because of this, a TO is simply not controllable by anyone. He will always be a problem. Moss is smart enough to know when to shut up and when he can get away with things. In GB, or in NE, I think Moss would realize it's gametime and be 100% willing to not make a scene or himself. TO simply could not help but do so.

I don't see the Pats going after Moss any more after signing Welker, Washington and Stalworth. There is just not the pressing need as there was before those additions. I think GB would be very wise in getting this deal done.

I agree with the Fiery One on Moss vs TO. Terrell is on a different level of morons. I wouldn't see Moss causing all that chaos in Philly that TO did when they actually made it to the superbowl. So has Moss made any comment other than he wants out of Raiderville?

I can't stand what's going on with the Bears right now. ******* Briggs won't shut his mouth and it trying to be a new T.O. in his own right.

Friggin Ban Drew Rosenhaus.

You know, football players aren't the smartest guys around and easily malleable to his rhetoric. All agents are scum but he's a batch of infected yeast trub. I don't know the details and Briggs was being interviewed last night on ESPN but I didn't pay attention. Still, isn't he saying he's willing to miss out on 7 million? It's like the broadway show Chicago where Gere is controlling Zellweger like a puppet IMO.

If this Moss thing actually happens, and Aaron Rodgers IS part of the deal, two things come to mind.

1. The Favre haters will finally have to admit what us Packer fans have been saying about A-rog from the very beginning of these retire now arguments :)

2. The Packers should immediately send Miami a 3rd round choice for Daunte Culpepper. You know this will be the season Favre goes down and we'll need a back-up who can play. Reunite Randy adn Daunte and let's get our "roll on". <GULP>

If I told you that I saw this all go down in my crystal ball, I think there'd be a lot of Pack fans rushing to the bathroom to puke. Kind of scary, ain't it? :D

LOL...if that ever made it to a Packer forum, I'd be banished to "Purple Pride" forever...

Kind of :off: ....but I had to share...this is how my off-season is going. This baby (I'm dubbing it "The Packer Throne") got delivered today. :ban:
