Hello to everyone. I just started my first batch of beer yesterday (got a kit for Christmas). Now I'm trying to find out as much as I can about home brewing. I see I have a lot to learn!!

I have only been looking on this site for a few hours, but I can see that everyone here seems to be very friendly and willing to help.

I have posted to other sites (non-brewing related) and found that some people are there just to trash others as much as they can. It's nice to find such friendly folks here!

Anyway, it looks like I'm going to spend a lot of time browsing the forums looking for tips and help.

It little quick info on me. I am 47, married with 2 boys. I love the outdoors, especially hiking. I live in Ohio but I was born in Michigan so I am a true BLUE U of M fan.

Looking forward to picking everyones brain. Thanks.

Doug

Welcome to the hobby - what kind of kit did you get?

If you've got some time, check out howtobrew.com. You can read the 1st version of Palmer's book online for free. That's a great starting point.

I got a Mr. Beer kit. After reading several of the posts here I REALLY feel like a newbie. I guess I have nowhere to go but up.

Thanks for the link to the Palmer book. Very, very interesting. Looks like I'm gonna spend a lot of nights reading.

The newbie feeling goes away quickly. Before you know it you'll have a pile of brewing stuff and a wish list with twice the stuff on it. One of the cool things about this hobby is that there is always something new to add, but you can make really great beer right from the get go.
