LHBS got some pacific jade in and I wanted to play around with them. This is what I came up with:

9 lbs Simpson's Golden Promise
1.5 lbs Crystal 40L
0.5 lbs Cara-Pils

0.75 oz Pacific Jade @ 60min
0.25 oz Nelson Sauvin @ 25min
0.25 oz Nelson Sauvin @ 10 min
1.0 oz Pacific Jade Dry Hop for

WLP001 California Ale Yeast

Thanks!

I would dump the crystal entirely. Sweetness covers hop flavors. To really get a good feel of the hops do a 2row smash APA or IPA. Bitter with something else and keep those late addition/dry hop.

yeah i have an oz of pacific jade and wanted to try them out was thinkin a 2 row smash and dumping the whole oz in at 15min

edit: or maybe half at 60 and other half at 15, or fwh with half, decisions decisions

id cut the crystal to .5lb or 1lb max.

this recipe is also a little light on the hops for an IPA

id skip the 25min addition and add 1oz nelson at 20min

then, If its not too late to get more hops, I'd add another 5-6 oz, maybe 2oz pac jade/1oz nelson at 0min (with a 20min hop steep at 180deg) and the same addition for dry hop

so itd end up like this for the hop sched:

.75 nelson 60min

1oz nelson 20min

2oz pac jade 0min (with 20min steep at 180)
1oz nelson 0min

2oz pac jade/1oz nelson dry hop 7-10 days

Thanks for all the help guys. Here's the final bill:

9 lbs Simpson's Golden Promise
0.5 lbs Crystal 40L
0.5 lbs Cara-Pils

1 oz Pacific Jade @60min
1 oz Nelson Sauvin @20min
2 oz Pacific Jade @0min
1 oz Nelson Sauvin @0min
2 oz Pacific Jade DryHop 7 days
1 oz Nelson Sauvin DryHop 7 days

Looks good. The base recipe I used (I am a kiwi and an unrepentant hop head) to create a NZ pale ale was this one below. It's based on "MashUp" which was a massive collab between a shed load of our craft brewers. They released the recipe to home brewers. I am planning to do it again and just up the hops some..

The brew turned out stellar. Riwaka is a great hop if you can get it in the US. You should consider southern cross or motueka too. My fav NZ IPA uses:

Sourthern Cross, Motueka, Nelson Sauvin
Gladfield Pale, Munich, Crystal and Caramalt

WortNZ's MashUp:

Grain Bill:
Maris Otter Ale Pale Malt 3.350 kg
German Munich Malt 1.650 kg

Hops

NZ Southern Cross - 10 g @ 60 Min
NZ Riwaka - 15 g @ 20 Min
NZ Cascade - 9 g @ 20 Min
NZ Southern Cross - 5 g @ 20 Min
NZ Cascade - 20 g @ turn off
NZ Southern Cross - 10 g @ turn off
NZ Riwaka - 7 g @ turn off
NZ Southern Cross - 30 g - Hops Dry-Hopped
NZ Cascade - 20 g - Dry-Hopped
NZ Riwaka - 15 g - Dry-Hopped

Yeast - 1272 American Ale II
