Hey everyone, since the economy here went to heck and back the idea about starting my own homewbrew sparked.

So I started the homebrew with a Coopers Real Ale and I am very satisfied with the result of the first brew.

I am preparing my second batch at the moment and got some Brew Canada - Canadian Draught

Looking forward to that one and I will check out how the Real Ale is going. Just posted my label in the labels department.

So it will be really exciting reading more about homebrewing and I will be looking into how the heck I can get some hops and malt imported on the cheap to Iceland. Not many people selling that stuff here :)

Maybe this is a business opportunity?

Thermal vents? What is that?

Geothermal energy is Iceland's second largest source of energy, I guess that's what he meant. But, most surface vents aren't hot enough to boil wort.

hehe, I have like less then a mile to a hot spring from here so it wouldn't be too hard to boil the vent in a hot spring to make it taste funny. It's full of sulfur and stuff so I wouldnt recomend it. I actually boiled an egg the other day in one of those and a shop in a town close to the Capital actually makes bread in them. Just remember you have to seal the thing you are boiling really good before so :)

Iceland? Whoa!

Welcome to HBT! It sounds like you're off to a great start with 1 in the books and another one in the works.

Welcome to the obsession. :mug:

Haha, been called Bolti since I was 6.... Actually means Ball in Icelandic :)

I have 1 question.

I have a very limited choice of Extracts that I can get to in an easy way.

So what I am wondering is,

If I have the Coopers Real Ale extract, can I modify that with adding stuff to the extract that comes out of the can? Like spices for example...

Welcome :)
Not familiar with the Coopers kits, but if you can get your hands on some specialty grains, you could steep them and add the "tea" to your boil. They will add color and flavor. Also, if you use a different yeast than what comes with the kit, and play with the fermentation temps, you can get different flavor profiles.
