The New Glarus Brewery in New Glarus, WI. is expanding. New Glarus is the largest micro in Wisconsin but right now can't keep up with demand. They only distribute in Wisconsin because of the demand. But the new expansion will triple their current production. What I found really nice is that they are showing us what they are doing with it. It's cool seeing the equipment being built in Germany, check it out here. http://www.newglarusbrewing.com/expansion.html

I just wanted to share the cool find and show that their is hope for people outside of Wisconsin.

I was able to sample a few from New Glarus tonight that I'd never had before. For free, might I add- the bartender kept feeding me for nothing:)

Fat squirrel: Don't know what style that was supposed to be, it was on tap, and all the bartender said was "dark beer". Kind of like a brown ale, only maltier. Excellent stuff.

Road Slush: This is the first Stout I have ever, repeat ever, liked. A little more of a chocolatey taste than raosted barely. Thumbs up.

Copper Kettle Weiss: Awesome dunkle wiess-and no, I didn't use lemon!

I had a good evening!:mug:

The Fat Squirrel is a very 'nutty' Nut Brown Ale and yes, it is excellent.

Their beers are great. I've been meaning to get down there and go for a brewery tour, but their website kind of scared me. 'Self guided tours available Monday-Sunday 9:30am-4:30pm'......or something to that effect. It sure doesn't sound very interesting, sounds like you'd walk around some hallways with windows into the operations area and there would be little buttons you press and some recorded guy will play.

Has anyone ever done their brewery tour? I think I'll do Berghoff and Tyranena before I do that one unless I hear otherwise....

I toured New Glarus recently. Personally wasn't all that impressed, but if you like the more rustic type breweries it's worth a visit. Coolest part is their mash/lauter tuns are the "old fashioned" copper type (they were imported from, i think, germany). Very sexy...other than that, yeah, there are definatly more interesting breweries in that area to tour. Tyranena is definatly worthwhile, i'd also recommend checking out Ale Asylum....GREAT beer!

I agree, great beer, I need to go there again soon! I was at the downtown Great Dane last night, if you're in town go there and try the Oktoppelbock and the 7 Cs APA, both great beers!

The lakefront tour is quite nice great if you go on friday nights. Watch out it gets crowded. But I personaly like the fact that they are showing us what they are putting in the new brewery.

Captial is expanding too, they are using only local suppliers unlike New Glarus where they are getting most from germany.

The New Glarus beers are available in most stores here in Milwaukee area and Spotted Cow and Fat Squirrel are on tap in lots of area restaurants. The Fat Squirrel is pretty darn good IMHO.
