Hello everyone. Been brewing for 3 years but I have been brewing extract kits. I am seriously thinking about making the jump to all grain. I am someone who loves to build something even if I can buy it, which drives my girlfriend up a wall at times with 3/4 finish projects just sitting around waiting till more stuff falls into my lap.

All of my equipment came from when I lived in Richmond so for the most part it all came from Weekend Brewer in Chester Va. Actually most of my stuff is still up there, have not exactly made the full move yet, it has only been a year

ah. Was hoping to get some feedback on the local shops. I have heard mixed things so im thinking of just getting started with a northern brewer kit.

I like to do alot of research before tho. so thats why i still havent committed lol.

BrewPilot do you have any recommendations on local shops?

Welcome! I really want to get into all grain too, and have found some awesome (and cheap!) mash tuns you can make yourself online out of coolers. I've been primarily doing extract and partial mash and experimenting with different recipes, but if you don't do all grain, you're missing out... or so I've been told. All of my beer so far has been good except for one batch...

I have been meaning to hit up the Homebrew USA shop in JANAF shopping center. It is not far from my place and well I need a couple of things, just been real busy lately.

I think we have been looking at the same setups. What had been holding me back from going all grain was the price of kits, but hey for less then $40 I can build one I will do that.

Homebrew USA at JNAF on VA Beach Blvd is a good store with a great selection. The only thing negative that I can say about it is that it doesn't have much atmosphere. Very strip mall like feel. Maybe that sounds dumb but I moved from Rhode Island last year and I used to love to go to this little place in Providence that had local bands come on weekends and they would let you sample their brews and even do workshops on brewing, mead making, etc. There's nothing like that around here that I know of but Homebrew USA should have everything you need.

That sounds like the shop I used in Richmond. Maybe minus the bands. I am fine with the lack of atmosphere. To be honest I am not sure when I am going to get to brew again, this summer is a lot of traveling.
