New brewer

Hello,
I am glad I found this Forum. I have just started doing my research on breweing beer. I have yet to but anyhting yet. I am going to buy a starter kit, but I jsut want to make sure iI get the right items. I want to make sure that I buy what I need and not Buy what I dont. I am more than open to any suggestion. It would be a big help to me. I am also looking to make a Oatmeal Stout without having to mash. If anyone has any suggestion on how I might go about doing that I would be much obliged.

You can read the online version for free @ www.howtobrew.com

Depending on where you live, you might want to look at the kit beers offered by NorthernBrewer or AustinHomeBrew. They're highly regarded.

Welcome. I started brewing when I received a Mr. Beer kit for Christmas 06. Although I don't recommend starting with Mr. Beer kit, it is what got me where I am today (with brewing). My wife said she opened a can of worms that she should not have opened!! When I first started doing 5 gallon batches I used the Brewers Best beer kits. They have pretty much everything you need to brew a batch of beer and have informative instructions. This is a great forum to read anything you wnat to know and ask questions. First of all, thank you for the warm welcome. I have already read the pdf version of how to brew and that was really helpful. I have been looking at the brewer's best start up kit and I was wondering if that would be best. I was looking at getting a auto siphon, or getting a better bottle as a second fermentor, but I do not know if they would help me to much on my first couple of batches. I live in Santa Barbara California. I heard there is a store in Ventura that could help me out, but once again I dont know if that would be benifitical to go check it out
