Hi everyone, have just started brewing a coopers lager kit but have added 500 g of light spray malt with 500g of dextrose. Will this work ok?Have allready got a batch of coopers english bitter secondary fermenting in grolcsh bottles, have primed them using ordinary sugar.Any advice would be really welcome.

A few questions about your current brew - What was your original intent when adding the DME and dextrose? What was in the original kit/recipe? Batch size?

As for your bitter, I typically try to use corn sugar (dextrose) for bottle conditioning (secondary fermentation), but have used reg cane sugar with success on several occasions. Dextrose is just to dissolve, and will usually "work" a little faster. Some say that table sugar will give off flavors even when used for bottle conditioning, but I've not seen this to be true with mine. Maybe you can report back when they're ready and let us know what your results are?

From one newbie to the site to another - Welcome!

Thanks for the info, will keep you updated. As for adding the spray malt,I saw it on a coopers site.We shall see......

My new lager brew is fermenting away great, but I havnt got an airlock, when I push the lid down slightly I can hear the co2 escaping.Should I leave it alone or give it the helping hand?

Definitely leave it alone. When you push down the Co2 escapes, but when you let go I would assume O2 comes rushing in. Are you going without an airlock for a reason? If you simply don't have one on hand, a blow off tube and a glass of water w/sanitizer works just as well and is cheap and easy to adapt to most any fermenter.......
