Been brewing for a little bit now. I've done about 8-9 kit brews so far, and am just starting the leap to recipe-based extract brewing.

I'm a little nervous, but have been reading Palmer's How to Brew, and the Joy of Homebrewing. I think I've got a good idea where to start, but there's still a million questions I need answered :).

I don't have a homebrew store nearby, so I'll probably have alot of questions about where people get their ingredients. I've mostly used Northernbrewer and William's brewing so far.

Welcome to the forum Modix! Where abouts in Iowa are you? October 1st there will be a new homebrew store opening up in Urbandale and will be called Beer Crazy. Hopefully you're within driving distance of the metro. :mug:

I'm in Iowa City currently. There's a couple good micro brewers nearby, but they all get their stuff from large scale vendors

Hey, I'm in Iowa City as well. Just moved here a few months ago and haven't had the chance to brew yet. I'm looking to get one going in the next couple weeks, though. Might have to get together and swap a few brews....

Hi, I just signed up, having recently discovered this forum. I'm in Cedar Rapids, and envy you Iowa Citians for not having a half-hour drive to go to Johns Grocery.

I know there's a homebrew club in IC, which you may be interested in. The liquor store on the Coralville strip had a small selection of homebrew supplies (at least they used to) for emergency purposes, but yeah, I get pretty much all my supplies mail-order.

My current project is putting together a keg fridge. Woohoo!

Yeah dirty John's has an amazing selection. I was in beer heaven the first time I walked in there and I live four blocks away so that's pretty sweet. Is there a homebrew supply store in Cedar Rapids?

Welcome! Good to see more folks from home around. :) Originaly from Emmetsburg, but I left long before I started brewing. Good luck with your brewing, you have come to a great place to learn what you need to know, and more then a few things you don't. :D

Benz Beverage Depot in CR has started carrying a small selection of brewing stuff. It's pretty limited and also pricey. If you're up this way, it's interesting to stop by though, as that's where Cedar Ridge (winery/distillery) has their still.

Another Cedar Rapids brewer here.

The Hy-Vee Drugstore on Center Point also has a limited selected of brewing supplies - a few specialty grains, DME/LME, a few kits and some dry yeast and hops. Not much to choose from, but may help out in an emergency. I need to get over to Benz and check out their selection.
