Absolutely the beans talk to me. The challenge is when the beans get in an argument. But you need to compensate for the fizzbins in the banana patch....

Thanks . I had to go look up fizzbins,then I saw the purple flower fizzbin and I to look up that person ,to see if he was the guy who I sent two bean roast to .Longbrows like the first crack plus 30 ,for his uber expensive esspresso ,..not the 1min..darker..

Okay, I'm not going to make any new friends saying this, but there is a definite plateau WRT coffee flavor/quality. I buy freshly roasted beans from dark matter and brew them in a $1400 Jura espresso machine. Meh. I also enjoy the free mud in the lunchroom at the office. Talking beans? Tell yourself whatever it takes to make it through your day I guess.

I was talking about a friend who grows flowers similar to the fizzbin..not kirk.I really did send him beans.Just wondering if the jura gets smokey ..I did trade work for a jura,had it for a year then pump problems,,made great espresso. That friend I sent beans to made great espresso .and gave me all kinds of cigars..

I really liked the jura,made great espresso. Till the pump broke ,send back got new pump for free and it did the same thing. The jura is gone now ,but I really am glad I only traded some of the work for it.I still like espresso. Do the beans talk? Do not believe me as I am a "Beer Troll". Ask the roaster if the beans talk or should I say crack. And ask the roaster if he can hear them say " full city".

Not that you couldn't have worded your original post a bit differently--which you kind of explained--but I don't think there are many versions of "I have never taken gravity readings" that you could have used and not be shot at. It's possible that some are just too intimately connected with the subject or "standard" process and consider that you were attacking them personally, even if that was the furthest thing from your mind.

But, really, should you have to tip-toe around here or should people just lighten up a bit?

Thanks. I have gotten some trollish remarks from others. I even got a new Nick name. I still will be doing the Brew my way.. The pros really did not want to read it.. I did not do this to be disrespectful. I have been respectful,unlike another thread about yeast that got closed.Will I tip toe around? Yes I will learn plenty from the pros,geeks,nerds,and someone named screwy.. When I start reading more material or people's comments , I learn and grow. I Asked this question to my SO

I'm familiar with that aspect of medicine: a perfectly healthy woman would come in and get ALL of the tests that even remotely have to do with being pregnant. I thought of the CYA part and lots a extra cash sucked from the insurance company.

Yes I being called out As a Troll. I thought it very funny,and now anew nick name. I traded for years snow removal for ingredients. Last season it was 2 bags of Base malt for the beer Troll.

How much is the beer

Let's not get into that. That doesn't matter. My original point is lots of home brewers don't
measure OG and FG. We just don't care what the ABV is. Two weeks in a primary and if you want
to a week in a secondary for clarity insures a completed fermentation. Now I track it. I use a refractometer made for brewing (there are refractometers made for lots of industries like checking coolant levels). I admit, I enjoy doing it and it insures consistency - something that didn't matter before. On a side note: It isn't against the law to provide beer for a private party, gathering, or catering.

That's cool. I know of someone who only ever rinsed his bottles and claims he's never had a bad one.
What would you advise new brewer's to do though? There's quite a bit to know if you're able to skip taking a reading.

What would advise a New brewer..I would them to read the hopped exact can and follow the instructions..naa ..I would say go buy a small kettle 4 or 5gallons . Can be had cheap cl or thirft store. Look for people selling brew supplies cl or thirft store.Ask friends who garagesale ... buy this first..ss kettle 5 gallon. 5 gallon carboy..Then I would send them to homebrew store for supplies..blo b off tube 4 foot that fits carboy, orange cap , water bubber for the cap. Starsan..and one hopped kit and 1 lb of dme that matches the kit..I would pour a beer for you and me..start with 2 gallon of water bring it to boil..dump can in and bring it to boil ,,turn down cuz I like slow boils for 45 minutes.. While that is going on the carboy will be washed rinsed and starsan ..I would fill up kitchen sink with cold well ground water and put the kettle to float in . Change out cold water 20 minutes...while I am waiting I will dump the dry yeast in the carboy and fill up with 2 gallon of Cold water. Once the wort is cool I will pour thru a funnel in the carboy. And top with water.Find a nice sitting spot And park it..put the big blow off tube on and Into another water bucket...watch and learn the phases of the fermentation...While the waiting happens I would tell brewer to find 40 swing top bottles....
