Hey All - has anyone experimented with pushing the % of the grist using Flaked cereals. Typical for usage in NEIPAs. Has anyone been experimenting using them upwards of 50-60% or more of the grist? Most recipes call for 10-20% but I was wondering the impact of taking them 2x or 3x that.

Looking at experimenting with this.

I know Scott janish did a 100% carapils
It's on his blog

It's a good blog in general.
I've heard mostly bad reviews of highly oated grist's. They come across as oily, in a bad way. Not a viscous thick way.
Make sure you have other Malta with high conversion capabilities if you got that route.

I would think that if you used a combo of flacked wheat and barly, skip the oats it would work. Id try 20 20 for 40% of the grist.

Was reading a crazy in depth thread here the other day saying about how some of the best *apparently* neipas don't use nothing flaked. Treehouse I think. And get their Claudia shiffer from elsewhere.
That said there's no reason not to buy the definition of the beer might become something closer to a hoppy wit. Id second not going too high on the oatmeal. I quite like a but of malted or caramel oats though

Been very happy with 10% wheat/white wheat, 3-5 dextrin and the rest 2 row myself.
I would be more intrigued to try some Vienna and Munich and see how they translate. Oatmeal beer just won't work well. Not to mention your would need a few pounds of rice hulls to even have a chance at lautering.
