I'm planning to brew a 5g batch of NEIPA tomorrow but can't settle on my hop combo. My last 3 batches were all galaxy, all galaxy, and galaxy/sabro. Not that galaxy is bad, just looking to switch it up. Any ideas are appreciated

Here's what I have on hand from a non-bittering hop perspective:

Galaxy - 1 lb 2 oz - Citrus, sweet fruit
Mosaic (Lupo)- 6 oz - Citrus, sweet fruit, berry/currant
Simcoe - 3 oz - Citrus, sweet fruit, woody/aromatic
Sabro - 4 oz - Citrus, sweet fruit, cream/caramel
Citra - 2 oz - Citrus, sweet fruit, floral

From a grain perspective, going with ~11 lbs 2-row, ~2 lbs white wheat malt

Edit: Added the flavor profiles from Yakima Valley's site.

Here's an idea:
  • No bittering hops
  • Whirlpool - 1oz lupomax mosaic, 2 oz sabro
  • Dryhop - 2oz citra, 2 oz galaxy

fwiw, I have an neipa that uses Citra, Mosaic and Galaxy in prodigious amounts (22 ounces for 10 gallons) that goes quickly. I've never used Sabro so don't know if it'll be a plus or a minus...

Cheers!

Thanks for chiming in! Sabro is supposed to contribute some coconut/cream flavor but I didn't notice it in my last batch. I'm at about half that amount of hops (12oz) for 5g so we'll see what happens

fwiw...I am currently sipping a Sam Adams Wicked Tropical IPA. Here's the label. Check out the description:

I am not a fan of how the coconut character interacts with the tropical flavors, just doesn't work for me. If that is from Sabro hops (have not been able to determine yet) I would avoid that combination. Might be worth finding a can to see for yourself...

Cheers!

I brewed this today! I personally love coconut, it's why I bought some sabro.

I switched up my routine this time and going to see how it changes my brew - I whirlpooled twice, 1 oz of each at 170F and again at 120F. Going to also split the dry hop charge into 2 doses
