Neighbor wants to call fire marshall for brewing

As a firefighter it would be in your favor to do as someone suggested and have a fire extinguisher out with you. I would recommend a 5lb ABC. The reason being is that many things fall into gray areas in regard to the codes. Having a turkey frier full of oil, "fuel", next to a multi resident structure is what the code is there for. People do not need to be put at risk of death because someone can't fry a turkey safely.

With you boiling water it falls into the question of the letter of the code vs the intent. If I responded to a code call and you had the fire extinguisher mentioned above, removed any ground clutter, are a far away from the structure as possible, and are polite, I would try to find a way to not cite.

One question, is the garage attached to the apartment building? This would make a difference in the leeway given. Property at risk is different that lives at risk.

so i ended up taking it up with the landlord, we talked she said not to worry. when i brew i have a fire extinguisher, and a garden hose. everything around me is hard scape, ie asphalt and concrete. i am away from the building but not 10' but it is non-combustible stucco. ive been brewing like this for over 2 years never one complaint. neighbors usually come over and ask me what im doing, a few said they used to brew along time ago.

the landlord told me the neighbor complained about me! because i had him cited for parking in a fire lane, in front and blocking my garage, you know what she said, i told him to do it haha!!!! hes pissed and wants her to move him to another unit and she said no, they want him out!

so i wrote a quick note back to the neighbor saying i know the note was him, and if the fire marshal shows up, i will make sure he sees the bbqs on the porch becuase if anyone is in violation it is him. im nor worried anymore, i am in the right all i would have to do is move 10' away if anything. im going to brew as far as i can from the building without imposing upon the fire lane, traffic flow. sometime when i brew even cops drive by and chit chat it up about what i am doing and no trouble.

ive gotta get a recipe ready for Saturday.

Somehow I get the feeling there'll be another story to tell on Saturday. I find it hard to believe that neighbor's gonna just drop it. I'd be extra careful to follow all rules and laws this weekend, cause you just know he's gonna be keeping an eye on you.

I'd get a 6 or 12 pack together, give it to him, and say "Hey, i'm sorry for getting you ticketed, but I need access to my garage, and you're in the wrong for parking there. We both have to live here, so lets make it as pleasant as posssible. I put together some of my world class, high quality, non combustible beers for your enjoyment. Lets have a couple and get back on the right track. Oh, and thank you for inspiring me to rename my brewery Fire Hazard Homebrew."

I tried to build a heatstick and almost caught my kitchen on fire. So I bought a turkey fryer.

Just stop fueling the fire, pun intended. Unless you are prepared for at least a few months of hassles as in how long an eviction would take, ignore him. And that is relying on the landlord taking that option.

When you got him ticketed you took it to the next level. Then you fueled it again by confronting him.

He is an A-hole but there is really nothing you can do about that.

You might have to ignore him for a couple of months without brewing outside since he is now using that as a weapon.

I feel you have now created a situation where you will have to wait it out and hope he moves or that you will have to move.

let me tell you another story.

so i have a jeep and i took the doors off one day and didn't relocate the mirrors and I backed up into the hose bid and busted it. i called the landlord right away to let her know what i did.

a few months later the neighbor somehow backs into it and busted it also, trying to park infront of my garage, but he drove off and then parked on the street. what he didn't know is the landlord saw him do it, she happened to be down in the alley. so hes walking back and see her and says someone busted the hose bib and water is spraying everywhere! she says, ya i know i saw you do it! what a jerk trying to deny it.

since then she always tells me about that story and laughs and says we like you living here, but not him. the maintance guys that have fixed this both time, actually are the building owners i found out yesterday, and they know the story and want him out!

all i care about is that i can get into my garage when i want. i don't care if he illegally parks somewhere else, or whords his crap, because in the end it just causes more problems.

i was so close to towing his car, and i told the parking enforcement just ticket it. imagine if i towed it what he would have done, and it would just be more crap i don't need. i mind my own business.

Well, I don't know if it's out of control yet or not...

Frankly, I would have just called to have the car towed and let him figure out why it was towed. Seems like the guy won't stop blocking the garage and parking in the fire lane until he can't afford to get his car out of impound. I'd let the city make a few bucks on him and call them each and every time it happens. Let him go broke with impound fees, and maybe the city can get a new park bench out of it.

You forget that he was ASKED NICELY not to block the garage and break the law to begin with. I wouldn't call that escalating. I'd call it attempting resolution.
