can anyone here recommend me a couple good books on brewing lager .i am only going to brew lager only this year so I need to build up my knowledge base.

mcgeary beat me to it. Noonan's book is a little older but still a classic. And it's not just about lagers, has a lot of useful general knowledge. Another book I find useful is Ray Daniels 'Designing Great Beers', especially if you're looking for recipe ideas.

Noonan's book is definitely the homebrew bible for lagers. There are more advanced brewing science texts to read but Noonan's book is the best starting point.

Note that there is the original Brewing Lager Beer but an updated release New Brewing Lager Beer is also available. Get the updated version if you're hunting used book sites/stores.
