I'm interested in brewing a "Boobs Barley wine" by Chuck Boyce (from the book Homebrewing for dummies). He won 2nd AHA nationals contest, so that's why I want to try this recipe. Comments are welcome and my questions are below.
- Malt extract: 12 pounds light malt extract
- Specialty grain: 3 pounds Klages malt
- 0.5 pound dextrin malt
- 0.5 pound crystal malt
- Bittering hops: 9 ounces Bullion (90 mins.)
- Flavoring hops: 1.5 ounces Fuggles (15 mins.)
- Finishing hops: 1.5 ounces Cascade (2 mins.)
- Yeast: Wyeast #1056
- Primary: 4 weeks at 75 degrees Fahrenheit
- Secondary: 2 weeks at 65 degrees Fahrenheit
- What is Klages malt? any replacement?
- Crystal malt... Which from 10L to 120L?
- For dextrin malt, I heard american carapils is the same and you need a mash tun. Is this correct? Any other way around if I don't have a mash tun?
- I entered this recipe within beertools and it gives a IBU of 300! 9 ounces for 90 minutes is a lot isn't it? I believe the recipe is for a 5 gallon boil. And I can't find bullion hops, any replacement?
