Need help from a MN brewer with HERMS!!

I wasn't sure where to put this, so I figured the general area would be the best.

I am looking to upgrade from extract brewing. Knowing my personality, I don't want to end up investing money into a basic all grain, just to want to upgrade again in a few months. I have brewed several batches and have the brew bug pretty bad.

I have spent endless hours researching different systems over the last few weeks and decided I would like to do a HERMS. Through endless hours of looking over diagrams and whatnot, I have a pretty good feel for the system. However, I am more of a visual learner.

I was hoping that someone in MN would let me join them for a brew on their HERMS system so that I can see it in action and pick their brains. There is no hidden agenda, thats it. Just want to watch and ask questions.

If there is someone that would be willing to do that, I would be greatly appreciative.

I understand your wish to not be wasting money on the basic setup only to throw it away in a few months when you feel the need to upgrade but consider trying a half size batch all grain by way of BIAB with the pot you already have with your only purchase a paint strainer bag. You'll quickly find out if you really want to go all grain and your total investment will be under $5 to try it. The paint strainers I bought came 2 in a package for less than $4 and while I ruined my first bag within a couple years, I'm still using the second one now, 4 years later. You may find that you enjoy the simplicity of BIAB and decide to stick with it or you might want to move to 3 vessel brewing but you won't have invested so much that you feel cheated if you have to throw it away.

Great advice. I will definitely give this a try. Would still love to see a HERMS in action too
