how long can a keg last?

If I do natural carbing it is my understanding that it is done at room temp, so how long can I leave it there (weeks vs. months?)

Also, If I carb a keg via co2 in my fridge, if I take it out and leave it somewhere at room temperature will it be alright and how long could it last? Thanks! Any advice is always appreciated!

Let's put it this way, my keg of Oktoberfest (in my signature) went on-tap in April of 2010. It still tastes fine (a bit of acetylaldehyde but that was there from day 1).

It has always been kept cold though.
