I have a hop garden built around where several generations of family dogs have been buried. I'm making a Cascade based Pale Ale from last years hops. I was thinking of a couple names. K-9 Pale Ale, or Best Friend Pale Ale are in the lead but I'm not totally sold on either. Thought I'd ask the peanut gallery. I don't care if it's serious, funny, dirty, or silly. All suggestions are welcome.

Name the beer for what is is rather than a conversation item. My biggest gripe with New Glarus. What style of beer is Moon Man if you don't have the package to read.

I get what you're saying Flars. My family stops over and drinks my beer. They know about the pet cemetery and where it is. Besides I'm not commercial. I think it's also about the fun.

Pooch Drool
Leg Lifter
Hairy Socks (if you have a dog & walk around the house in socks, they will be hairy)

I like fun beer names. What the hell is Yum Yum, Alpha King, and Gumball Head without the labels too. And that's 1 brewery.

Pick one dog and name a beer after it. Bowser's Brown Ale. Next beer, pick a different dog to honor. Fido's Festbier. Etc.

(I know I'm not very imaginative)

Pet Cemetery Pale Ale (aka PCPA) or if you name it after Stephen King's book, Pet Sematary Pale Ale (PSPA)

The Paws That Refreshes Pale Ale

All Dogs Go To Heaven Pale Ale

Brew Dawgs Pale Ale (but that's probably trade marked with the TV show and everything).

Awesome so far! I agree with Phingertoes04, it is part of the fun. That's why I got into brewing anyway. I can buy great beer, but I want to make it! That's fun!

I like the Idea of using the dog names but I only know a few. I'll have to research with the family. Many were buried before my time. Pet Semetary Pale Ale. I like it! I forgot about the spelling. Been a lot of years since I read the book. Definitely in the running but I'm open to more ideas. Leg lifter is growing on me. Might have to make a few more beers so these aren't wasted!

Doogie Schnauzers' Sours
Dog Day Dunkel
Ankle Biter Ale
The Buried Bone (giggity)
Waggin' Tail Wit

I'm drunk...lol. If these are even REMOTELY helpful I'd be happy to do more 'brainstorming' for ya! Do you know what breeds are in the Semetary? I had to put down my best friend and long time bird hunting companion not long ago..she needs a tribute beer. I loved that girl and she's the only 'person' I know who loved beer as much as I do!

Obviously everyone deals with pain in different ways. Man I miss my Clairabelle. I just can't make a joke of it. Sorry to be dour. I name most of my beers after something dirty. My latest creation is treasure trail golden ale. So for your genre I think I would go with something like "Shed A Tear", "Goodbye Claire", for my Clairabelle maybe "Chasin' Quail" or "hot pursuit" since she was a hunting dog. Hope that gives you some ideas for your guy/gal. There must be one there that is special to just you.

I was going to say Hair of the Dog, but someone beat me to it. Also like All Dogs Go to Heaven. I think naming beers is a lot of fun. I've also named a few beers after dogs. They're such a special animal, and a special bond with people. That said, this afternoon I will raise a glass in honor of your pets, and to mine. Cheers! Let us know what you decide on.

Wow I can't believe the response I'm getting. This is awesome! Lots of great ideas. Tonight I'm opening up something special in honor of our lost tail wagers and bird chasers. Salud!
