You got it, Rodent! Visiting the Christmas market there is totally worth it. There’s a small brewery pn the island whose products, unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to sample.

(not my image, but a place I've visited twice)

Alaska Airlines used to fly to the Russian Far East from Anchorage. I had clients in Vladivostok I visited a number of times. One of the stops was Magadan. I visited Otaru once to get on a client’s icebreaker to ride it to Vladivostok.
Sure is pretty there, hope I get there someday.

Alaska was who I also flew in/out from Anchorage.

Magadan is the only place in my life to date that I've had opportunity to look down into the rifling of a loaded (and safety off) assault rifle while it was aggressively pressed in my face (from somebody who was not in a police/military capacity) while threats/demands were being levied at me and the group I was travelling with.

One learns a whole lot about themselves in that split-second of a moment, and where they stand as a person during those milliseconds (that seemed like hours) counting the potential cost of what doing the right thing could result in.

But enough said, outside of that lone incident Magadan was a great city full of otherwise very humble, warm, and welcoming people.
