Basically. The photo was actually taken from the parking area. The photo is of the Great Smokey Mountains National Park viewing south into North Carolina with Fontana lake in the background. We were there a couple years ago right as the remnants of tropical storm Claudette were coming through so the day we hiked up to the top of Clingmans Dome it was cloudy and a little rainy. The shot from the parking lot had a better view than from the observation tower.

Yes, it is the intake to the Los Angeles aqueduct. I have been reading about the history of how this was built. A fascinating story of engineering, construction challenges and greed.
