This isn't your normal mountain scene.

Looks like the trees have been inundated, so either it's some kind of tidal thing or we're looking at a reservoir created by daming a river?

Overall vibe feels a bit like the Yakima Gorge but it's not that. So somewhere in the Cascades?

Looks like Quake Lake. East of Lake Hebron on the Madison in Montana
Quake Lake is right!
In 1959 an earthquake (7.5 on the Richter) caused the entire north side of the mountain to come crashing down into the valley, damming up the river and creating that lake. 28 people lost their lives that night.

Ennis is north of Quake Lake. The only river there would be the Madison. That area is my hunting grounds.
Edit: It looked familiar at first, but I couldn't put my finger on it. But that looks like it's the shelf along the the Madison near the rest stop, just north of Cliff and Wade lakes

I got it, we went looking for moose just over the bench there just this year. No luck though. Most people float Bear Trap these days, instead of your posted pic. I'll let others guess now since you've revealed it to me.

Sorry for the confusion but it was always known to me by the name I gave you and you can even Goggle it and get many pictures of the area.
Beautiful trout!

Grey Cliff in Montana is way further out east. It's on I-90 along the Yellowstone river and has a really serendipitous little cheese shop/motel/fishing access

@govner1 , I'll give you a hand lol

Everyone else: it's in Madison County, MT, happy hunting
