Based on the clue, I'm going to guess Peoria, IL.

I know it's the home of Caterpillar, and that the Illinois River goes through Peoria. Not sure on the furniture angle though.

Well the clue seems too easy... I'm going to say the picture was taken from Skyline Drive in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

I thought of it because I used to ride motorcycles on Skyline Road in the Santa Cruz Mountains, and obviously "skyline road" is a common name for roads along ridges like this. But since you're in VA (and based on it looking NOTHING like CA), I'm guessing it's the one in VA.

once you've reached the south end, you're not too far from Blue Mountain Brewery, Silverback Distillery, Wild Wolf Brewing Co and Devils Backbone Brewing Co

all part of what's called the "Brew Ridge Trail"
