Mystery Hops

My wife, in a moment of thoughtfulness, got me something called "Hops in a Can". I didn't think it would grow, but I threw some water on it anyway. Well, it is now about six-inches-tall and has been transplanted out of the can.

The trouble is that I have no idea what hop variety it is. The can said it was from Italy. Anybody have any idea what the hell this thing is.

It actually says in the little packet, it took me looking at the thing five or six times looking to find it. Its humulus japonicus(sp?). Not at all a beer hop.

Great. So it is not only not a beer hop, but an invasive species. I will be digging it up today.

I would destroy those. They are an invasive species.
