I am about to start my second brew and I have a couple of questions.

My plan is to make the following.

"Belgian Wheat"

5 gallon batch

Coopers Wheat Extract (LME) 3.75 lbs.
Additional 2.0 lbs. Light Malt Extract from local brew shop. (LME)
Yeast: Safbrew WB-06
Additions:
1 oz. Coriander
1 oz. Bitter Orange Peel

My questions:

When should I add the Orange Peel ?
When should I add the Coriander ?

Feel free to advise and / or comment on my recipe.

I appreciate any and all feed back.

:mug: cheers

Common practice is to add them at the end of the boil so you don't drive off the aroma.

Should I put them in a muslin bag or just throw them in ?

Also.... Should I grind the coriander or just put it in as is... Muslin bag or no ?

1 more... Do I leave the coriander and orange peel in for the entire fermentation ?

Add at last 5 min of boil, if you can't find crushed coriander, make sure you crush your own. You should strain into the fermenter.

Don't buy crushed... crush it yourself . I use a cheap coffee grinder.

Throw it in at flame out. Into the ferments or not is all good. I don't like bitter peels.it's a different bitter than hops. Kind of an unpleasant rough bitter. I prefer sweet peels for the aroma/flavor and bitter with my hops. All my peels come from produce that had been zested

Update.....

Ok... It is in the fermenter. The wife was in the brewing mood so we jumped in !
:rockin:
I used the recipe in the original post. We steeped the orange peel and the coriander for about 20 mins. Note: we vacu-sealed the coriander and the wife crushed it then put it a muslin sack with the orange peel.

Once that was done we proceeded with the Coopers Wheat Beer Extract and the additional 2.0 lbs of light malt extract. From LHBS.

OG = 1.042

Pitched the Safbrew WB 06 at 77 F let the yeast sit on top for 10 min. And lightly stirred it in.

Put fermenter in room with temp of 68F and installed blow out tube going to a large Mason Jar with Vodka in it.

Now all we have to do is wait....wait...and wait ! :mug:

Now it's time for a shot of Crown Royal !!

That's a lot of Vodka going to waste. Get some star-san. It's cheaper

We get it free ! It is about $40.00 a bottle normally. One of the owners at my wife's company makes vodka and rum that is carried by Spec's Liquor Stores here in Texas.

No cost to us !! :ban:

Good stuff. I'd be using the vodka too.

Sounds like your brew went well. I brewed today also.

Tell me about your brew and how it went.

I always like to here the news.... I feel like it helps us all learn from each other.
