My Coffin Keezer Build

Hello All,

I am creating this thread to help document my build and to hopefully give assistance to others while also maybe receiving some advice as well. I look forward to all of your comments and critiques.

I know most people use the hinges that are on the freezer for opening and closing but I'd like to put some shelves off to the sides of the coffin to hold glasses and don't want to have to take them all off and on every time I need to open. Yes I am really hoping these work as a imagine them to so now I will hopefully be able to open up and exchange kegs without have to tip the whole top over like when using the freezer hinges. I will like to have a way to keep glasses on my keezer so it will be nice if I don't have to take them off every time I need to exchange a keg or something.

Got the wheels on and the top attached. Unfortunately the hinges I wanted to use just didn't support the top well enough. Had to reattach the freezer hinges to the back. The downside to the hinges was the a set of the holes were too small and the screws just kept pulling out of the wood with all that weight on it. I won't be keeping the front this long shown in the photo. I'll probably have it sticking 6-8 inches out.

Got the sides up with some minor flaws but I don't think nothing I can't hide with some trim and bar rail in place.

Started building the coffin!! Here is the front. Waiting on getting a router so I can edge up the top piece as to where the faucets will go. I plan on putting some tile on the indented part below with recessed lights above. The coffin is 18" wide and 24" tall and 12" deep.

I have attached the coffin and began installing the bar top. I am using unfinished red oak flooring for the top. There is a reason for the large gap around the edges and that is the bar rail that requires a 4 3/16" gap for install.

Has anyone else had any issues on when cutting the holes to run the tap lines up through the top on cutting through the external metal of the freezer lid? I've got a 4" hole saw that just doesn't seem to be cutting it very well.

I've seen several builds where others have used the freezer top but I decided to make my own top when I built my coffin top. I'm sure your hole saw is for cutting wood. You may have to use a dremel or something to get through the metal in order for the hole saw to be able to finish the cut. Or maybe drill a pilot hole and use a jig saw with a metal cutting blade. It's not going to be a pretty hole. But then most won't see it anyway.

I'm looking at the same chest freezer. It's on sale for July 4th from Home Depot.
How many kegs can you fit in it with the CO2 on the hump?
