I AM SO EXCITED :ban:

here's what i got:

The Gold Homebrew Kit has all you need to get brewing and adds a glass carboy for secondary fermentation resulting in a cleaner finished brew. Each Equipment Kit Includes:
True Brew Handbook & Kit Instructions,
7.8 Gallon Fermenting Bucket,
1 Lid Drilled & Grommet,
True Brew Rack & Fill kit,
6 Gallon Glass Carboy,
Fermometer Fermentation Thermometer,
Small Buon Vino Drilled Stopper,
Hydrometer, Bottling Spigot,
Emily Double Lever Capper,
3 Piece Airlock,
Bottle Brush,
C-Brite Sanitizer 8-Pac

for my first brew I think I am going to give a California Common a go round...

:mug:

Damn man Im jealous! I ordered the same kit two days ago and it's in Oklahoma City, I'm in Kansas City. Oh well should be here soon enough.

My first brew might be an Oatmeal Stout. I love them but I don't know if I'll have the patience to let it sit too long, and from what I understand, stouts need to age at least 1-2 months. Might do something light.

Congrats man!!

THANKS!! I can't wait to get my first brew going (mind you I have to nail down a recipe and go get the ingredients)

I helped a buddy of mine do an AG chocolate bock about 3 weeks ago and I've been hooked on the idea of doing my own brews. I spent about 2 weeks online reading/watching videos, and finally bought my own kit, lol.

i think i got a pretty decent deal on the kit...with shipping it was $84, and its easily expandable with another carboy.

Wow I paid $94 off Amazon.

and DAMN chocolate bock sounds delicious. (what does AG mean?) :)

Yeah I've been spending ALL my free time watching vids and reading posts on this site trying to figure this stuff all out.

You planning on getting an ingredient kit or going out to purchased your ingredients separately? I want to brew some chocolate milk stout or something wild but I'm thinking maybe I should stick to ingredient packs.

Thoughts? :mug:

I think i had a 10% off promo code or something...

AG stands for All Grain (my buddy is way more experienced than I)

Im undecided whether I am going to go with an ingredient kit or just get ingredients. I'm inviting my buddy over tomorrow to check out my kit and go over recipes/ingredients...

Cool well let me know. Maybe we can brew together through the interwebs!

Brew something fast your first go around. Your going to make some mistakes, you'll be gnawing the necks off of your bottles in anticipation of trying your creation, and chances are you'll have half a dozen more brews on deck to get brewing. So for all of the above reasons, having a quick turn around is a great thing for your first go.

I'd second this strongly. Took me three months to get to the point I could let my brews sit long enough to mature to their best. Hefe, I/PA, mild all turn around & are chep so mistakes don't hurt as much and waiting doesn't hurt as long. :)

"All your home brew are belong to us!"

is the california common too long of a fermentation? I thought that'd be a good one being a Pale Ale.

if you have any recipes you think i should give a shot, please share!!

Bristol... Are you starting out as an AG brewer? Do you have AG equipment? I'm a pretty new brewer as well. I've bottled 2 batches, I have one in the primary and one ready to bottle this weekend. I'm also brewing an extract recipe that I hope will be similar to Youngs Double Chocolate Stout this weekend.. For anyone without experience (or without experienced friends) I would start with a cheap, easy extract recipe first.. Just to get the hang of things. If you have a friend helping you do an AG batch though... More power to ya!
Good luck! Happy Brewing! And most important RDWHAHB!!!

I wish i was ballsy enough to go AG for my first batch, lol.

I'll be doing 5-6 extract brews, then hopefully gathering the equipment needed to move to AG.

Sorry, the first time I read your recipe I overlooked the extract conversion at the bottom. I thought it was ballsy indeed that your recipe looked to be AG for a first batch. I think I'll play with extract/grain batches for 6 months or so while I save money for AG equipment (and figure out how to make room to do it).. Today I just received a 7.5 gal turkey fryer that I ordered, so now I can do full boil instead of my previous 2.5 gal boils.. I still need a wort chiller though.

Let us know how your first batch starts out this weekend.......

Thanks!! Yeah i figure i'll do 5-6 extract recipes and then try and go all grain. My buddy made his mash ton out of a coleman cooler...I need to look into a wort cooler. My buddy just ice baths his and he hasn't had any issues doing that...

I found an Anchor Steam Clone in my buddy's recipe book, so im going to be going with that first...

Equipment should be here tomorrow, im gonna run out in the afternoon and grab the ingredients so I'll be all set for a brew on friday. Excited about it, kinda nervous too! My buddy will be here to guide me along my way...I just got back from his house and he racked the AG chocolate bock to the 2nd fermentor then we went over my recipe.

Im pricing out my recipe @ my LHBS and its about $50...they have a California Common kit for $40....either way @ the LHBS or ordering it, its about the same amount...

CANT WAIT TO GET STARTED!

Damn man I actually got my stuff in the mail today! Just brewed the first batch, a Hefeweizen. Have the pot cooling at the moment. It ate right through all the ice in my freezer, not I'm being patient and letting it sit in some cold water.

I thought the temp would cool down alot just letting it sit outside but I was mistaken. Going to rig up a wort cooler with some extra copper tubing I have lying around.

honestly. AG seems ballsy for the first time, but its not too much different than extract. basically you hold your grains and water around 150 to 155 (more or less depending on recipe) for an hour. then drain, add more water then drain again. look it up. also look up BIAB (brew in a bag). you can brew anything you set your mind too! :mug:

sorry. i meant to say that after you drain, it's the same as full boil, extract.

yeah, i know the proccess. I helped my buddy do an AG chocolate bock, which inturn got me addicted to brewing...

I just don't have a mash ton right now...i figure 5-6 extract batches and i'll be dying to go AG

Wowzers those kits are expensive!

I've only brewed from recipes, never realized how much they hit you for on a kit.

I've got a (as yet untested) Wit that should run >$20

extract prices is what kills it.

the kit is $10 cheaper than the ingredients for my recipe, but i don't know what exactly comes in the kit.

Im about to head to my LHBS and check them out...GEAR JUST GOT HERE!!

Im all set for tomorrow!

ended up picking up a 5 gallon better bottle for my secondary...

3.5 lbs extra light DME
2.75 lbs light DME

Good luck man! Keep us updated.

I'm actually on my second brew lol. Second day with the equipment. Yesterday was a Hefeweizen, today its an Oatmeal Stout. Using grains for my first time, kind of excited!

Check into leaving your brew in primary for 3-4 weeks and then bottling. Use the 6 gallon carboy for a second batch!

Check out Northern Brewer's kits. $50 seems awfully steep!

I did 4 extract batches and 4 partial mash batches while collecting my all grain equipment.

Happy Brewing!

I'll look into it! Thanks!

I didn't buy a kit, i bought ingredients for a recipe. The kit for the same style beer Was $38. Which is a compareable price to NB (theirs is $34 then you have to pay $8 shipping) so its only a few dollars difference for getting it right away vs having it shipped and well...I wanted to brew today! LOL.

I dunno there's something about using a kit vs a recipe...I'd rather go with the recipe....

:rockin:

Cheers! I'm sure your first batch will be great! I was surprised at how good my first batch was.. Today I'm bottling my own recipe of a Blue Moon clone. Tomorrow I'm brewing a Youngs Double Choc, and Sunday I'm brewing a Dunkelweizen... Big brew weekend for me! :rockin:
