So my brew buddy recently got a couple ingredient from a friend that no longer brews beer, one of which is a Pumpkin Spice Ale. Seeing as its getting to be spring time, we are thinking of not using the spices, and making this kit into a Pale Ale. There is 3.3# light dme, and 3# munich lme in the kit. Since i'm still a noob, I'm not very familiar with munich extract. My question is what hops will play nicely with the munich in a pale ale?

Thanks,
J.

At like 10%, pretty much anything. At 50%, id stick with the milder nobleish hops for alot of the flavor additions. Crystal, Mt hood, sterling would be good choices for example. And keep the IBUs reasonable. Like less than 50.

Thanks for the response! From checking out the Briess website it appears their Munich malt is a 50-50 blend, so that would put the Munich at 25% if I used that and the light dme. Would you still want to mainly use milder hops?

There are good American Pale Ale recipes that use that much Munich. Check the recipe section for guidance. I prefer to try established recipes with plenty of positive feedback. I know you are working with a given set of ingredients, but you can find something close. Yooper's House Pale has plenty of Munich, you might copy her hop bill. Good luck, report back.
