So i started my first ever hard cider last night (1-14-14) and everything went fine.

Go to work this morning and get I got laid off!! So im moving in a week!
My question is can i put the cap back on the bottle ( only for the time if transportation ) and them resume with the breather top when i reach my destination?

How long will transportation take is probably a more logical question...

Transport will be in stages. But at the most the cider will be capped for 12 hrs.
Is this to long?

Be sure to top up & have the minimum amount of headspace possible as some sloshing WILL happen. Leave the airlock on, put your carbouy into a plastic Rubbermaid tub & cover it with a dark cloth like a towel or a blanket. Be sure to pad the bottom & place it in a secure location in the moving truck, where it can't tip or fall & nothing else can tip or fall on it. Or just put it in the passenger seat. You could also hit it with a campden tab to guard against oxidation just prior to moving.
Regards, GF.

I wouldn't cap it. It sounds like you still have fermentation going on and in 12 hours there would be a LOT of pressure built up in there. You could put a cap on and leave it "loose" so the gas escapes, but cranking it down tight would be a bad idea.

Sorry to hear you got blindsided.

Don't cap it. That is literally the last thing you want to have happen via car trip. I agree with gratus fermentatio, keep the airlock on and put it into a tub.

Whats this about oxidation? And should o have my project in a dark spot all the time?
Ill prob just leave the airlock in and transport it like such.
Thank u everyone for ur input.
Ill keep a running note as to educate everyone including myself about the outcome.
Added question. I used 1Tbl spoon of yeast. Is that to much for a gallon?

The hootch is coming along fine after the move add some brown sugar today and its bottoms up come next week.
Thank you everyone for ur inputs

Use an improvised low pressure valve.
Take a thick (freezer) sandwich bag, and a good sized rubber band.
Place both around the neck of the carboy.
It isn't ideal but it should work.

Click on my avitar, & scroll down to the picture of the cider jugs to see several in use.
