Hi all,

My name is Jan. I'm originally from Munich (Bavaria) where I spent the first 24 years of my life.

I did my first extract brew in 1990.

After some more batches and 8 years later I went to Weihenstephan, made a profession out if my hobby and studied brewing sciences and beverage technologies.

After getting my master (Dipl.-Ing.) I worked for 4 years for different professional equipment suppliers around the world. Therefore I had no time for brewing.

In 2008 I switched "sides" and started as a filling expert for one of the biggest food companies. First for one year in Switzerland, than three years in Ohio, followed by three years in Germany. During that time I started home brewing again and bought my all grain equipment.

Since Sunday I'm back in Ohio in the Cleveland area ( Aurora) and would be happy to get in touch with some local home brewers.

Take care

Jan

Welcome to the forum! I'm originally from Ohio but moved away more than 30 years ago. I remember Aurora quite well- because we went to Sea World and Geauga Lake all the time (both gone now), and it was close to home for me.

I don't know anyone there anymore, but there must be other homebrewers around.

Welcome to our forum!

Welcome, we are really spoiled around here when it comes to beer. I am in Berea.

Homebrew club: http://www.beersnobs.org/ - I have never attended, but plan to soon. Membership gets you discounts at most of the shops around town.

Homebrew shops:
http://clevelandbrewshop.com/ - City of cleveland not far off I90
http://www.thebrewkettle.com/ - In Strongsville, technically a brewery, but they have brew on premise and sell grain/hops/limited yeast select also. Really fresh product due to brew on premise.
http://www.leeners.com/ - Akron Area homebrew shop
http://www.grapeandgranary.com/ - Tallmadge area, this one is my favorite.
http://www.jwdover.com/ - Westlake area
http://labelpeelers.com/ - I think these guys are in Akron, no experience with them though.
Morebeer and homebrew.org tend to get orders here within 1 day since they are in Michigan and Pennsylvania.

Build your own 6 pack: https://www.facebook.com/Circle-A-Food-Beverage-419943694719697/timeline/ also have a small tap selection for growlers fills, prices are better than local breweries, bottle selection is great.

Breweries:
http://fatheadscleveland.com/ - Nprth Olmsted
http://marketgardenbrewery.com/ - Cleveland
https://www.greatlakesbrewing.com/ - Cleveland
http://www.hoppinfrog.com/ - Akron
http://thirstydog.com/blog/tasting-room/ - Akron
http://buckeyebeerengine.com/ - Lakewood
http://rockyriverbrewco.com/ - Westlake
http://cornerstonebrewing.com/ - Berea
There at least one nanobrew I cannot recall the name of on w25th in cleveland.

Welcome. As has been pointed out, the Cleveland area is a good place to be if you like craft beer. There are more Brewers than were just listed, as well as quite a few bars and bottle shops that cater to the craft beer drinker.

We are about 35 minutes west, so I am not sure what's over that way other than willoughby brewing, we are spoiled over here. We are always up for a local brew if you find yourself out this way.

My dad & I worked in Cleveland for decades, & we lived in Lakewood back in the day. I'm in Sheffield now, but there are a lot of homebrewers in the Cleveland area. Great Lakes has a cool bar/pub...the very one elliot Ness of the " untouchables" drank at!

Thanks folks! Wow, seems like I'm in the right place.

I will try to get in contact with the SNOB

The brew on premise place look interesting for me, because I will receive my equipment in 4 month and 4 month without brewing...... No go.

My son & his buddy from work tried The Brew Kettle's BOP shop. Pretty good, but can be done cheaper at home. The Brew Kettle has some good beers & hickory bbq as well.:mug:
