So for the last 5 days my brother and his friend have been lost in the Bob Marshall wilderness trying to outrun a fire ! They were 35 miles in off the trailhead when they were last seen. My family has been in tears for 2 days as search and rescue has found nothing. My mind has been restless for 5 days and sleep is near Impossible. I decided to Brew today as planed to keep my mind on somthing else for a change. The 777 brew that's been talked about here at HBT was my query and I rightly named it so. I recieved a call from my aunt who lives in Montana and she told me they were going in tomarrow to check the last area the boys could be in. This broke my moms heart as she heard the news. I was 25 min into my boil, then as if the Brew Gods were smiling down on my family , my brother calls from my aunts after just pulling in the drive. I can't believe he's alive ! They got lost and used a Compass and map to hike themselves around the 1500 acre fire.It took the 4 days and countless miles. I finished my brew and changed the name. I'm now going to call this brew MT wildfire Pale Ale. I plan on bottling all 10 gal and giving my bro 5 and his friend 5 gal each. 777 a lucky brew day for sure !:mug: :ban: :tank: :rockin:

WOW BRO!!! That right there is one helluva story!!!
Glad to hear all is well!!! Are you heading out to buy some Lotto tickets??? ;)

:mug:

Wow! Great news! I'm glad your brother knows how to orient a map with a compass. It a skill most folks don't have, but as your brother now knows, can come in VERY handy.

I hope he enjoys your brew.

Glad to hear they are safe. The Bob is a rough place even without fires. They must be very skilled.

Hope you have a chance to have one with your Bro.

I grew up in Montana the son of a career Forest Service dad. So I have hear many of these stories, but just as many that went the other way. Good to hear everything worked out.

Great news about the family-Glad all turned out well. As a forest fire fighter here in N.E.Pa. I know good and well what has to be done to get around a fire(most spots around here aren't what they are at higher elevations though. For sure enjoy a few of those wildfires with the bro.I'm sure he'd like it alot. Shane

Thank you all who have responded. I believe that my bro and his friend would have been stoked on the comments. I plan on drinking this brew and sharing with friends and family. I ended up hiting my intended gravity of 1.050 dead on and my dough in at 151. I was calm and collective throughout my brew as if I new he was alright. I ended up pitching Pacific Ale Yeast from WL. Thought it was only proper coming from the North West. Man am I glad this whole ordeal is over. It's kind of wierd convincing your mom that her son will be ok and someone will find him alive when you yourself don't really know. You just gotta be there for the fam with your head held high. Never been in that state of mind b4 and i don't think I ever want to be there again. So I will drink back on this home brew and reflect.........CHEERS to all.

It must be difficult to be in that situation where you can't do anything but there is still hope. Glad it turned out well. It just shows you what a lot of skill and desire to survive can do.
