Hey,

I recently got out my fermentor after storing for a little while. I just use the 5-gallon pails. Anyway, they were stacked together, and mold grew in side of one of them. I have cleaned this away with soap and water, but the slight scent of mold remains. Any thoughts on how to get this out? Would soaking it in one-step do it, or do I need to go to bleach? How much bleach do I use?

Thanks

I'd soak it in water and bleach (like 1/4 cup bleach to the liquid in the bucket) and let that sit for a while. Then quadruple rinse it with very hot water. Let it dry and see if it's gone. I love one-step for sanitizing and cleaning, but I would use bleach for something like this.

I'm not a big advocate of bleach but I think Yooper is right. It will kill any remaining mold and it might get rid of some of the smell. You can also try filling the bucket with water, add a cup of baking soda, and let it sit a day or two. This will absorb some of the odor as well.
One thing about plastic, it sure does retain odors.
Good luck.
