I have a 48 quart rectangular cooler that I was thinking of converting into a MLT. The only concern I have is that there are two scratches in it. I know scratches in plastic fermentors is not good due to possible bacteria growth. I was wondering if there is the same concern with a MLT. Thanks for any feedback!

Nope. You could toss you dirty underwear in with the mash (don't do that) because after contact with your scratched MLT the wort is BOILED for an HOUR or MORE. Kills everything.

The MLT is used in hot-side service, so there is no risk from contamination. You only have to worry about nooks and crannies harboring critters where the wort or beer is cool or cold.
