I have some grains that have been milled. They are sitting in a plastic bag, in a box, on a shelf in a dark closet.

How long until they become stale? Should I move them?

milled grains have a 6 month shelf life. Recommended right from Briess and Muntons. 1 to 2 weeks is not true. There would be a severe problem with beer kits if that was the case.

5 gallon lowes bucket and lid make great storage. I grind up into my fermenting bucket and seal it off till brewing day. I just made a blonde with grains I had stored crushed since November. Came out pretty tasty.

Milled grains last much longer than 6 months. I found a batch I had milled that had been over a year and it turned out great that had been in a paper bag the entire time.

Ask yourself would you toss a bag of flour that had been in your cabinet for only two weeks?
