ive recently brewed a milkshake ipa and have a few questions on the finish.

Recipe
12lbs 2row
2.5 flaked pats
1.75 flaked wheat
1# hulls

Yeast 2 packs 1272

Mash 152

45 mins after hotbreak add 1lb lactose

60 mins add hops at flameout
2oz eukenot cryo
2oz Amarillo

Pitch Yeast at 64

Just pitched two days ago. I will dry hop on day 12 with
3oz galaxy
3oz citra
For 3 days.

Should I add 2 vanilla beans soaked in an oz or two of vodka the same time as dry hop?

Plan to bottle after dry hop.

Thanks!

I would not add vanilla beans to that recipe, it's likely to really clash with the hops. Just my opinion, though.

I have used vanilla in a milkshake IPA, it works well. The key is to use a small amount. This enhances the dessert like quality of the beer as opposed to being a flavour that you could pick out.

Personally I would use a good quality vanilla extract and add at kegging, something like 4ml initially and adjust to taste.

Also imo equinox is not the right type of hop for a milkshake IPA. You want something that resembles tropical fruits like mango or berries. To my taste equinox is lime flavored.

It seems reasonable. 2 beans may be a bit more vanilla than you want (or may be just what you’re after!), but adding after main fermentation is complete is what I would do. I might think about adding a few IBUs of boil hops, with all the sweetness from the lactose.
