My M-I-L is in town for Thanksgiving. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Well, why didn't you say so! I feel your pain. My suggestion is to start drinking heavily. :cross:

Good luck this weekend! I'm M-I-L free this holiday.

And here I thought Sam Adams was renowned for using an "almost reckless amount of hops" in their beers.

LMAO

Compared to Stone and Dogfish Head Sammy is a pansy.

Ed, can you spell out your sig phonetically so any non-deutsch speaking moron can say it?

Here's how to say "one more beer please" in Hongul (korean):

Mek ju, onna, ju say o
(beer), (one), (please)

Bumpity bump bump. Guess what was in my Sam Adams Newsletter today?

Also in the 2009 Samuel Adams LongShot Variety Pack will be one of last year's winners. Some of you may recall Mike McDole of California and his Double IPA. When chosen as a winner in '07, we anxiously anticipated its inclusion in the LongShot 6-pack. However, we were in the midst of a worldwide hops shortage and many of the seven varieties of hops in Mike's recipe were literally sold out. We couldn't find enough of several of these hops on the market at any price to brew his beer. While we presented Mike with a plan to brew his beer substituting in different hops, it ultimately would have created a very different beer. So we were delighted that Mike decided to have his brew included in the '09 LongShot package.

The wording sounds like a bunch of PR bullcrap, but i am glad to see it will be included in the '09 LongShot package.

It's not PR bullcrap, it's the truth. I heard an interview with Tasty on it and he was absolutely cool with it, said that he understood completely.

+1. Not PR Bullcrap at all. Have you *tried* to buy hops any time in the past year? If so, can you imagine that same experience, but multiplied by 7 varieties, and hundreds of pounds of each variety?

I wondered why there were only two winners at GABF this year ;)

I was kinda pretending to be press inbetween sessions and took a picture of this year's winners (pictures soon), the guy who brewed the traditional bock just WOULD NOT smile! I saw in the SA newsletter today that he had the exact same expression, ha!

At least they lived up to their claim.

I still think all of their beers suck, tho. There's some bile for ya!:D

Hmmm.. lemme guess who he is...

Damn! Those are some kick-a** beer mugs!

I'm hoping to get a hold of one of these packs. I have never had Pliny the Elder, but I am keeping my eyes out for it whenever I am in bottle shops.

On the other hand, I can't help but think that it's a bit odd that a massive brewery is brewing a clone of a micro-brew.... does this cross some brewing ethics line?

It's not a clone. It's a pseudo-clone. McDole and SA/BBC have, presumedly, the blessing of RR to proceed. Otherwise, it would not have made it this far. This was covered a ways back in this thread. So... no. No ethics line, IMO.

How wide is the release on these? I'd really enjoy trying these beers, but I can't recall ever seeing these (Longshot brews) on the shelf before. Is it a big distribution, or confined to big-market specialty shops?

I'm curious if EdWort lived up to his statement and has not had a SA yet?

I got last year's sampler and was impressed. Bit pricey, but that's what you'd expect in this kind of thing. Luckily Grunst Brothers Liquor Store and Sporting goods about 20 minutes away carries a great selection of beers.

I had the Blackberry Wit at NHC. Not good.

There was also a coffee stout (or was it a porter?) that was decent. I'm looking forward to trying Tasty's Pliny clone though.

Sam Adams is garbage to begin with. This doesn't surprise me a bit.

Dude, I had the beer. It was good. They did brew it when they were able to get the hops they needed for it (at the time hops were scarce, there was a shortage and breweries were hoarding hops).

Did you not actually read the thread?

Are you a troll?
