Hey guys,

Trying to use my new ballington brewpot I got online. As I begin boiling the water, I notice a metallic scent coming from inside the pot. Should I be worried?

I've cleaned it several times and it still produces this smell. I know one step can smell kind of weird but I don't think that's it.

Thanks in advance!

I've found that residual machining lubricant can impart a smell my brain associates with metal, and oils can be a beyotch to completely remove. In any case, that's a tri-clad pot so everything you're looking at is stainless steel, which shouldn't on its own produce a metallic aroma...

Cheers!

It is probably some machine oil residue. Clean with a some soap...this is the one circumstance in brewing that I would suggest dish soap. Rinse it well afterword.
