A little over a month ago we brewed a winter warmer. The recipe (which had multiple good reviews) called for 2.4 lbs of molasses to which I was like woah way too much, and settled with just 2 pounds. Bottled 3 weeks ago. Have been pooping them to make sure they’re carbonating and to try and each of them with the first two sips there’s is a sharp almost metallic taste. I notice it more than my SO but it’s still there. I’m thinking it’s from the molasses, but will this mellow out with age?

It’s not strong but you stop noticing it after the second sip, not sure if that will make a difference.

Molasses is very high in minerals, including iron. It gives a metallic/mineral taste that does not fade.

I use four to eight ounces in stouts. Always get that metallic taste. I kind of like it.

All the Best,
D. White
