Monday is Memorial Day here in the US. For some, it's a day for good sales. For some, it's just another day off from work. For others, it's a day to remember those who've served and died so we can remain free. As a fellow veteran, I choose to honor those who have fallen so the rest of us can continue to be who we are. On this and every Memorial Day weekend, remember the Fallen.

Thank you for the reminder. I know people don't mean it, but a few people have said "Happy Memorial Day!" to me and I just try to realize they are confusing a day of thoughtful rememberance and thanks with Veteran's Day. To think that those men and women and their families sacrificed it all for us is really heartbreaking and we owe them a great debt.

When my daughter was in high school, she was asked to speak at the local cemetary event one year on Veteran's Day. The local American Legion was in charge, and it was really a beautiful tribute to those who gave all. They do it yearly, right down my street, and I wish more people would attend so they could understand why "Happy Memorial Day!" isn't appropiate.

I absolutely agree, it's almost disrespectful but some folks just don't understand.
