I did my brewing and put in primary fermenter last Saturday and moved to secondary today. Everything appears to be going well. Only one question, what if,on an ale, the temperature of the room where fermentation was done is less than 60 degrees? I put it in a closet in my basement and it has hung around 58.

Depending on the yeast strain the temperature could be okay, but pretty low for most ale yeasts. From what I have read and heard it will just take longer to ferment through. I think that as long as you are within the yeasts designated temp range you will be fine it will just take longer. Temperature consistency is what I have heard is much more important. So maybe let it sit longer in the secondary if your aren't getting the final gravity you were expecting.
