So I’ve made mead a few times and it’s been a while since my last batch,a couple of years to be more like it but even after letting it sit for so long it seem to still be a bit hot at the front.i guess my question is,what is the perfect abv for a mead that doesn’t kick you in the face like a pissed off mule.if I remember right all my batches came out between 12 and 15 % abv,I think,it’s been a while so I might be off but not by much.looking for an abv that is enjoyable, and not looking to get hammered or waste my time drinking a beer strength mead.all advise and answers are welcomed but don’t be a dick as i am still new to this.

You realize that this is the Beginners Beer Brewing Forum don't you?

Mead is not beer.

This subforum further down the home page is where you really want to be.... Mead Forum

Yes, I probably am being a "dick". But if you want the best answers, I'd go to the place where people with experience in mead will be.

There are people that brew both mead and beer. But they likely frequent that other subforum too. And there will always be a few of us that only make beer that tell you to do something that isn't appropriate for mead.

~5-7% session, beer strength
<9% hydromel
11-13% standard wine strength
14-15% strong wine
15+ sack mead

One one end of the spectrum: low-ABV, light body, subtle flavor. On the other: high-ABV, full body, full flavor. It's a gradient on which you need to find your own preference. Technique, ingredient, and process choices can help develop fuller flavor and body at lower ABVs.

But, really. Mead isn't going to knock you off your chair any more than a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc will.

Yea I should have paid attention,it’s my first time post, sorry about that but thanks for the info.

If this is a description of taste, etc rather than inebriation, you would be well advised to look into your process rather than target ABV.

Yeast choice, fermentation temp, nutrition. Age. Age. Age.
It is in reference to the hot alcohol taste at the beginning not the inebriating part.
