I am thinking for brewday we should do a 15 min addition and one at flameout. How much for each, I have no idea. What did you use in the mead?

I think in the comforts of my home I would like to play with adding the tea to the hopback and running the beer through it, but for brew day I don't want the added complexity.

I dunno, I used Green Tea w/ Chai teabags and steeped a few gallons of tea and then put in the honey.

But the chai spices have nothing to do with the tea leaves, just have to find out where to get the chai spice mix on its own somewhere.

I doubt we need to use anywhere near a pound... I can check the local high class food stores too.

Wow, clearly I don't know anything about chai. I think the tannins from the tea would not be terrible, but I guess avoiding them by just using the spicing is ideal. I will look around the foodstore and see if there is anything local.

I might have to pass on a chai saison. Cant say I have ever tasted chai until tonight when I coincidentally grabbed a pack of chai tea out of the sampler box. From the way this tea tasted, I am not a huge fan of chai!

I took a whiff, it smells OK. I will xfer it soon though. I xfered that wit to secondary a few weeks ago and dude, it smelled like straight s***. I thought it was doomed. Took a taste and it was pretty good! Looking forward to getting that baby on tap.

Is there anyone who will be at brew day that is planning a near future purchase from Austin homebrew, Northern Brewer, BMWH or any other like store that sells Silicone Tubing? MDHB does not have this stuff and I do not see it on Annapolis Homebrew's site nor the flying barrel. I need a few feet of this stuff and really don't want to pay $7 for shipping. I can reimburse you via paypal or just pony up at brewday.

Otherwise, you could call Tom @ Thirsty Brewer and ask him if he carries it, and if so, I could sneak over and pick it up since it's only about 15 minutes away and I'm sure I need to go back down there and pick up some mead yeast between now and the 16th.

Speaking of corks - we're only at 600. Come on people. Cugel? Yunus???

Cool, I will call that joint tomorrow. I wasn't even aware that there was a HB shop in that neck of the woods. I thought flying barrel, Anap. HB, and MDHB were the only shops in MD.

What are the corks?

You get a decent cost savings if you buy corks in the 1000 ct bags instead of buying in single 30 ct or 100 ct bags at the lhbs. If I can get enough to hit 1000 (or 2000) I will put an order in at AHS or Midwest for them.


Thirsty Brewer is in Balto County a few miles north of the top end of 695. Pretty sweet to have, as I wouldn't be driving down to MDHB very often ($2 each way thru the tunnels + 45 minute each way drive).
