making keggle; keg is pitted with rust spots inside

I was recently gifted a used keg that I intend on converting to an HLT. Upon cutting open the top I discovered the entire interior surface is "pitted" with rust spots (photo attached). Is this a lost cause? Should I attempt to find another keg in better condition? I don't want this imparting unintended flavors in the beer.

That may be from the cutting process.

Get a can of Bar Keepers Friend and give it a good scrub.

Yea, BKF will clean that right up. Odd that that rust was on the inside of an uncut keg.

Perhaps that keg sat out doors and you're looking at years of condensation?

If BKF doesn't do it, get a small wire brush wheel (make sure it's stainless), chuck it in a drill and scour off the rust.
