Hi all

Been lurking for a while, but finally signed up in the hopes of getting some advice on a chest-freezer conversion project.

I've been brewing on and off for the better part of a decade, and watching my dad do it for longer, but haven't been brewing recently as I got fed up with bottles and less-than-sanitary room mates. I'm hoping this keezer conversion turns that around so I can get back into it again.

Zum Wohl!

Scour the web for a deal on a used chest freezer. I got mine for $40 on Craigslist. Bought the taps and lines and stuff on eBay from beverage factory. I used 2 x 6's to build a collar on the top of the unit and then mounted the lid on the collar. Then drilled the holes for the taps through the wood collar. That way there is no drilling or modification of the actual freezer that can't be easily undone. Get a temp controller (I use a Johnson controls analog unit for about $40). Just make a little groove in the top of the collar to run the probe through and seal it off.

Can't beat kegging, gets rid of the cases of bottle cleaning.

After kegging for a year and a half I find that the occasional bottled batch is good for the soul. It makes you appreciate the kegging that much more.
