Obviously I'm here because I like beer (drinking beer is one of my favorite sports!). I decided to try brewing and I love it! My 1st batch was an applewood smoked Dunkelweizen. I used 1lb of crystal malt, 1lb of Perla Negra, 2 containers of Bavarian liquid malt extract and 1oz of Hersbrucker hop pellets. I smoked the crystal malt for 2hrs over apple wood chips at around 200°. The beer turned out great.
It's smoky, but not overpowering, pretty smooth and no nasty aftertaste. My brother said the smell and taste reminded him of an old time bbq joint (in a good way). I couldn't be happier with my 1st batch. It went great with a bbq wild boar ham! The only people that didn't like it are people that don't like dark beer or think Bud Light is good beer.
I just started a batch of Hefeweizen and everything is going fine with it and it should be right on time for a crawfish boil.
I'm sure I can't give any brewing advice, but I hope I can learn something hanging around here.
Here's a pic of my 1st brew. The name, Sumpfwasser, is German for swamp water.

Welcome to the site, you have come to the right place to learn!

I forgot to say that I started this batch when my daughter was about 3 or 4 days old. I plan to hang on to at least 1 pint until her 1st birthday and see how it tastes.

Good name for the beer. Old black water, keep on rollin'. Be careful around here. There are a lot of addicts...:D

Awe I'm down in the boot I was hoping you'd be a lot closer im always looking for brew buddies.

Welcome. I hail from a long line of coonasses.

That's a pretty tasty looking brew. Smoked dunkel sounds interesting for sure.

You'll definitely learn a lot here. I learned more in my first few months here than my first 3 years of brewing before that.

Some of them have no taste receptors, I think most are confused. My goto beers to introduce people to something decent are Shiner Bock & Lazy Magnolia Southern Pecan. After that I'll hand them a good hefeweizen. It's not hard to convert most people.
